Gwen Stefani's '90s Style Is Extremely 2018

We find people typically fall into one of two camps: those who can remember playing Tragic Kingdom ad nauseam when the album was released in 1995, and those who weren’t born yet. We’ll make the assumption that most of us are in the former, or at the very least understand how huge of a pop culture icon Gwen Stefani became after No Doubt songs like “Spiderwebs” and “Just a Girl” hit the radio (yes, radio—it was the ’90s). And though the singer’s career has taken an inspiring arch since then, it’s Gwen Stefani’s ’90s style moments that make us feel like not much has changed.

Since Stefani is celebrating her birthday today—October 3—we thought we’d celebrate as well with a blast-from-the-past look at some of her ’90s outfits that feature some surprisingly popular 2018 trends. Cue up “Don’t Speak” and scroll on to revisit, and perhaps repurchase, them all.

Statement pants and cutoff tees were Stefani staples. However, this leopard pair feels especially of-the-moment in 2018. And that crop top? It's one simple DIY project away.

Whether worn with or without the pants, this plaid skirt feels distinctly '90s. Today we prefer a similar style, worn with tall boots or tights.

Taking a break from low-slung pants and cropped tees, Stefani looked stunning in this vintage-style dress. We'd happily wear this exact frock today.

There's something about a graphic-print cardigan that feels one part Grandpa's closet and one part punk rock.

Much like today's coveted belt style, Stefani's is fabric and is worn with a little extra bit of dangling.
