I've Tried Every Goop Beauty Product, But I'm Most Obsessed With These 10
As someone who writes about countless beauty brands on a daily basis from the closed-off confines of my desk, I'm always curious to know what's actually resonating out in the real consumer world. Perhaps not so surprisingly, I get a lot of leads from the responses to my product-studded Instagram Stories. One theme I haven't been able to ignore? People are completely obsessed with and intrigued by Goop Beauty (which, in case you're not familiar, is the brand's impressive line of clean, nontoxic skincare).
Considering the brand's commitment to high-quality, and organic ingredients, price tags run high, and I receive DMs on a weekly basis about my thoughts. Are the products worth the bank account plunge? Are they as great as they sound? Do they actually work? How do they compare to other clean beauty products? So on and so forth. However, there was one minute glitch: Up until somewhat recently, I'd only barely dabbled into the brand's tempting pool of offerings. Therefore, I did what any responsible beauty editor would do, and I called in every product for research. The goal: try everything and report back with all of my honest findings.
If I had ended up hating everything, the experiment could have been a complete disaster, but to my very pleasant surprise (I've slowly evolved into quite the beauty skeptic), I truly loved the majority of formulas I scrubbed, rubbed, and massaged into my skin. Everyone has different skin types and skin concerns, so my experience and thoughts definitely aren't gospel, but as someone who has been around the block in terms of products and natural skincare exposure, I feel pretty well-versed when it comes to judging the efficacy and worthwhileness of a product. (It's in my job description, after all!) Ahead, the 10 Goop Beauty products I'm officially obsessed with and would add to your shopping cart ASAP. Keep scrolling!
The Complexion Picks
I've already gushed about this new cleanser from Goop Beauty here, but my love for this detoxing face wash only grows stronger. Not only is it pretty to look at, but it's also legitimately the only cleanser I've ever used that makes skin look like I've just had the best clarifying and glow-boosting facial before I've applied my toner, serums, and face cream. Usually, cleanser just serves to clean my face and rid my pores of residual makeup and debris, but this one, I'm convinced, has really transformed my skin. I've noticed a huge difference with fewer breakouts and congestion, and I think this formula (which is strategically spiked with copper and natural AHAs from Brazilian fruit extracts) is responsible.
Not surprisingly, I also fell in love with this like-minded pore-refining tonic. It's gentle enough that I can use it on my quickly irritated skin daily but potent enough that I've noticed real results. Just like the face cleanser above, it's formulated with detoxifying malachite in addition to a smart hit of glycolic, phytic, and fruit acids, which have reduced my breakouts, smoothed my skin texture, and even helped to fade some stubborn acne scarring. Plus, thanks to hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and vitamin B3, my skin can retains ample hydration.
This three-minute exfoliating facial might be Goop's best-selling beauty product. It receives doting five-star reviews across multiple retailers, and I had high expectations pre-application. (Especially since, I have to say, I was a bit underwhelmed by the brand's newest exfoliating formula, GoopGlow Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator, $125.)
This one, however, totally lived up to the hype. I applied it to my face after cleansing, left it on for about three minutes as the packaging instructed, massaged in circular motions, and then thoroughly rinsed off with warm water. Instantaneously (the name doesn't lie), I could tell my skin felt smoother and more polished, it was significantly brighter, and after the redness subsided (tip: use this at night and not in the morning like I did) the overall tone and clarity of my skin had definitely improved.
Because I'm acne-prone and routinely deal with finicky hormonal breakouts, I have to be really careful with the products I use on my skin. Anything formulated with comedogenic oils (ahem, coconut) immediately leaves my complexion riddled with congestion and pimples. So, sadly, I couldn't use some of the products, such as the fan-favorite Luminous Melting Cleanser ($90).
As with almost all clean skincare formulas, most of Goop's creams and balms are rich in a melding of oils and other botanicals, so I was a bit nervous to replace my oil-free, clarifying face cream with this daytime moisturizer. However, so far so good! To be honest, I am still scared that if I use this cream regularly I might start to break out, but I haven't had any issues yet and am completely obsessed with how soft and silky the finish of this formula is. So yes, I'm praying my skin continues to play nicely with its light blend of oils, linseed extract, vitamins C and E, and powerful peptides.
The Body Picks
Let me just start by saying that I'm obsessed with any lotion or potion that will enhance the health, look, and overall luminosity of my skin. That said, there are a lot of things that can make even the most promising formula fall flat—a greasy finish, overzealous sparkles, unnatural tint—you get the idea. However, this super-lightweight lotion is practically perfect in every way. There's no tint, just a hint of shimmer from mica, and it spreads and sinks into your skin with velvety ease. It does exactly what the name suggests: imparts skin with a subtle glow that essentially looks like you're walking around with your own personal candlelight filter. Plus, it's filled with all sorts of moisturizing ingredients you can feel great about like hyaluronic acid and Australian Kakadu plum—one of the most concentrated and potent sources of vitamin C. My only wish is that the tube was a bit bigger. It's almost $50, after all, and I basically want to use it every day.
Goop actually makes two different body wash–type formulas, and I tried both. (The other being G.Day Ginger + Ashwagandha Energy Body Wash, $32). Each formula is lovely in its own right, but I've definitely found myself gravitating toward the super-luxe marine clay cleanser. I usually hit the shower at night when I need to start winding down from a chaotic day, and the bright and peppery scent of the body wash is just a little too herbaceous and peppy for me. I love how the creamy Glacial Marine formula lathers and smells. It features helichrysum, rosemary, grapefruit, and peppermint, and I don't know if I've ever used a body wash that's left my skin so insanely hydrated and glowy after I've toweled off. This honestly gives you an excuse to skip your normal lotion or body oil ritual.
So I know I just told you that Goop's body wash offerings are so amazing that you probably don't even need an oil or lotion. But this formula is so addictively, soul-rockingly amazing, you'll definitely want to use it post-shower anyway. This is coming from someone who literally hates body oils. I assumed I would hate this one! I could not have been more wrong, and honestly, if you're only going to spring for one or two Goop products, this best seller needs to be one of them. Unlike almost every single other body oil I've tried, this one is so lightweight. It spreads lusciously over your skin, sinks in quickly, and instead of leaving skin tacky or greasy, it feels satiny smooth. It imparts this amazing healthy radiance, and it also happens to smell completely intoxicating—not surprising since it boasts a unique blend of organic Indian black pepper oil, Bulgarian rose-hip oil, Korean red ginseng oil, Japanese shiso leaf, fresh ginger, and pink peppercorn berries.
The Wellness Picks
Okay, so I basically created a wellness bracket in this story just so I could wax poetic about these gloriously delicious and gloriously effective chews: Nerd Alert (the perfect hit of caffeine), Knock Me Out (a blissful melding of insomnia relief), and Perfect Attendance (cough and immune support). All three are fabulous, which is why I recommend this handy variety pack to start, but I'm 100% addicted to both Nerd Alert and Knock Me Out. My morning cup of coffee is a gospel part of my routine, but since I'm a little sensitive to caffeine, I find myself struggling around 3 p.m. when I start to slump but don't want more coffee. I find one Nerd Alert chew (which has the caffeine of about a half cup of coffee) provides the perfect amount of kick to get me through the rest of my workday and an after-hours Spin class to boot.
I also sometimes struggle with sleep—my body is exhausted but my brain is not—and Knock Me Out (one chew has two milligrams of melatonin along with 250 milligrams of L-tryptophan) helps me fall asleep like a baby. And for stubborn nights, you can easily take two. Plus, did I mention they're absolutely delicious? Knock Me Out tastes like a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone, and Nerd Alert tastes like a creamy latte.
I used to be a professional water drinker. I was that person who had their 34-ounce thermos next to their desk at all times and consistently chugged throughout the day to meet and, more often than not, exceed the 64-ounce-per-day quota people love to preach at us. Yeah, not so sure what happened, but now it's truly a struggle, and even the mere thought of water in large doses makes my stomach do somersaults. Therefore, I need all the motivation I can get to stay fully hydrated during the day, and flavoring my water with super ingredients has been the best strategy. I can't honestly say if this fast-dissolving powder has actually impacted my skin, but it sure has heck motivates me to drink water, which definitely helps keep my skin glowing, clear, and healthy.
Loaded with grape-seed proanthocyanidins, vitamins C and E, CoQ10, and carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, it's an antioxidant powerhouse, tastes like a tangerine dream, and looks pretty to boot. It's become part of my morning ritual, and I love to add an additional squeeze of lemon for extra health and taste perks.
Considering the name of this product is basically the first question to pop into my head each morning (followed by "where is the coffee?"), it's fitting that this unique pack of supplements has quickly become one of my newest wellness obsessions. Each daily pack comes with four different vitamins—a Phyto multivitamin blend, an adaptogen blend, a licorice boost, and a dose of omega-3 EPA-DHA-1000. Rich in B vitamins, especially, the blend is chock-full of ayurvedic herbs, nutrients, and botanical extracts, all designed to support your body's reaction to stress.
