7 Style Tips We Learnt From the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Just because the Golden Globe Awards are a star-studded event with a red carpet and designer gowns to match, doesn’t mean we can’t learn a thing or two that we can emulate IRL.

This year saw celebrities take more risks than usual—we saw bright colours, sequins, and even Olivia Wilde wearing Aldo shoes.

Keep scrolling for the seven style tips we’re taking away from the 73rd annual Golden Globes Awards.

We've seen flares trending for a while now, but this extreme version still makes us crave oversized sleeves.

Shop flared sleeves.

When was the last time you saw a maxi skirt look this good on the runway? The key is in the monochrome pairing. It adds an interesting element to what looks like a gown, and we feel like its something we're going to see a lot more of.

Shop this elevated maxi skirt.

Kirsten Dunst must have been perusing Who What Wear Australia when deciding what to wear to this year's Golden Globe Awards. We predicted velvet would be a huge trend for 2016 way back in November.

A new jewellery trend can be a game-changer, and when the Who What Wear Australia team spotted this pinkie ring, we immediately jumped on Net-a-Porter to buy into the trend. You can't deny there's something super relaxed about wearing diamonds on your pinkie.

Shop diamond rings.

We're starting to think cut-outs will never disappear, so when we see them done in a new way, it's exciting. Today, Jennifer Lawrence tried her take on the trend in a subtle way. The loose sheath of her top over the cut-out makes the peek-a-boo trend more eye-catching.

Shop this similar cut-out dress.

WHO: Malin Ackerman

We thought it would be a while until we saw a peplum and fish-tail skirts again, after the trends took over a few years ago, but now it might be time to give them a second go (the peplum for real life, and the fish-tail for when you're off to a fancy event).

Shop peplum tops.
