I’m Tempted to Get a Fringe, But Only If It’s One of These 3 Chic Styles

As a beauty editor, it's my job to keep on top of the latest hair trends. Whether that's speaking to experts, analysing data from Google Trends or scrolling through TikTok and Instagram (it's a hard job, but someone's got to do it), I'm always on the lookout for the next big thing, and I think I just might have found it. I'm sure you know that the '90s was all about the fringe. From baby bangs to blunt, statement styles, there was no denying how cool this hairstyle was.

However, the trend cycle being as it is, we're seeing a modern-day revival of the fringe haircut, but this time it's chicer than ever. That's right, forget having your mum cut your bangs over the kitchen sink with a pair of old scissors (just me?), because this time we're embracing a range of elevated fringe hairstyles. Of course, I thought it was only right that I shared these styles with you, as they're a great source of inspiration for anyone thinking of trying out a new, chic haircut this year. I've included what I believe will be the biggest fringe hair trends of 2024, with pictures, products and tips and tricks on how to get the look.

So, whether you're looking for a fringe to pair with your new bob hairstyle or you simply want to add some face-framing pieces to your everyday look, keep on scrolling for all the info you need.

1. Curtain Bangs

The first type of fringe we have to talk about is curtain bangs. Not only have I seen this style all over Instagram, but the hashtag #curtainbangs has over four and a half billion views on TikTok. Pair that with the fact that celebrities such as Jenna Ortega and Sofia Richie Grainge are giving it a go, and you know you're onto a winner.

What I love about this cut is that it perfectly frames the face, adding dimension and volume around the front of your hair without having to go for a full-on fringe. If you're on the fence about whether to get a fringe or not, then I highly recommend giving curtain bangs a go.

Not only does this fringe frame your face beautifully, but I happen to think that it looks incredibly chic…

… especially when paired with a pretty up-do.

2. Wispy Fringe

Another great option for those who don't want blunt, statement bangs is a wispy fringe. This is another style that I've been seeing all over TikTok, and although the hashtag #wispyfringe might not have as many views as curtain bangs, it still has over ten million people watching and wanting to know how to get the look. In fact, we love the style so much that we've written a whole article on it.

The trick to this look is to go for a more feathered haircut with slightly different lengths throughout. As you can see here, Selena Gomez has longer layers around the outside of her face to make her fringe blend into her cut perfectly.

There's no denying that it looks great with a bob hairstyle, and seeing as we've all cut our hair short recently, I have no doubt that the wispy fringe will become very popular.

So, so elevated.

3. Side Fringe

Searches for side fringes have increased a lot over the past few months, and I've been spotting this style on lots of celebs from Taylor Hill to Dua Lipa. I used to think that it was a little dated, but there are so many new ways to wear the trend, such as these feathery, side-swept bangs on Emily Ratajkowski.

If you've read my guide to the biggest haircut trends of 2024, then you'll know that the pixie cut is set to be huge, and in my opinion, this works perfectly with a chic side fringe.

See? Told you Taylor Hill was rocking this trend.

Dua Lipa has opted for a longer side fringe, and I love how this looks with a high ponytail.
