The Holiday Outfit 95% of French Girls Wear
When she’s not working as a journalist, It girl Sabina Socol also shares her fashion expertise in our French Girl column. Come back each month for her perspective on Parisian style.
Now, this a tricky subject: How does one Parisian dress for NYE when we all know that the typical French-girl approach to styling is "woke up like this” effortless? I’m gonna be honest: I don’t know all French girls’ ways of dressing for a party—I just know mine. And let me tell you it is not laid-back. Let’s dive into it, shall we?
CARRIE BRADSHAW
I know, I know—Carrie is a New Yorker. This look is actually super personal, as I’ve always been a fan of Sex and the City and recently re-binged it. Carrie’s look was kind of over-the-top, so I tried to take it down a notch—the French way. I got this Chanel jacket at my friend Carole’s vintage shop (La Mode Vintage) as the first time I laid eyes on it, I thought, That’s something Carrie would wear! Yes, I’m a little crazy, and yes, I’m wearing short shorts in winter. But wouldn’t Carrie do that? I believe she would.
DISCO
I actually had a gold jumpsuit from LPA in mind when I thought of this look, but it hasn’t arrived yet. This fluffy number is quite sexy while not that revealing—apart from its plunging neckline. I love jumpsuits, and French girls love jumpsuits (I see a lot of women wearing them in the streets). Not that it’s a Parisian trend, per se, but I personally believe that any jumpsuit is really sexy.
FRENCH GIRL
I couldn’t not include a typically French look that 95% of French girls would wear. This look is French and effortless—I believe you know the drill. But a little inspo is always welcome, right?
'60S
I don’t know if it’s the bangs, but I’ve been obsessed with the minidress with a ’60s vibe lately. Not as obsessed as I am with Carrie, of course. But I think that this look is actually the perfect combination of a little dress-up mixed with a cozy vibe. This is a look I’ve been wearing IRL a lot these days, and if it weren’t for that gold jumpsuit from LPA, I would probably wear it for NYE as well. It’s not too much, and it’s very French.
