9 French Outfits We Plan on Re-Creating for Autumn
There's no doubt about it: French fashion types know how to do autumn style. Yes, here in the UK, we're no strangers to the odd layering trick or two. However, Gallic girls have managed to perfect the art of staying warm without being encumbered by lumpy layers. For influencers such as Slip Into Style's Ellie and Anne Laure Mais, knitwear is key, and luckily, this season has plenty to offer in this area with everything from skirts to dresses and, of course, sweaters, rendered in fine knit.
We're also seeing some excellent accessory action from the Parisians, with chunky knee boots proving to be the footwear of note this autumn. Scroll down to see the French-girl autumn outfits we can't get enough of this year. Plus, shop any pieces you might need to re-create the flawless looks for yourself.
French Autumn Outfits We Plan on Re-Creating Immediately:
1. LEATHER SKIRT + SHIRT + MULES
Style Notes: No one does effortless chic quite like Sylvie. Taking a simple leather skirt and classic shirt, combined for a fashion-forward look is inspired.
Shop the Look:
2. BLAZER + PLEATED SKIRT + ANKLE BOOTS
Style Notes: Give your pleated skirts an autumnal spin by wearing them with a blazer and ankle boots, just like Franny did.
Shop the Look:
Wear with a shirt through the transitional days, then layer up for autumn.
3. TRENCH COAT + KNITTED DRESS + KNEE BOOTS
Style Notes: Just because it's autumn, it doesn't mean you can't wear shorter hemlines. Make like Anne, and wear yours with knee boots and a trench coat.
Shop the Look:
A knit dress and knee-high boots is my autumn outfit blueprint.
4. CARDIGAN + BELT + JEANS
Style Notes: Cardigans are an integral part of Tamara's autumn wardrobe. Keep the heat in by tucking yours into some high-waist trousers.
Shop the Look:
5. DOUBLE DENIM + TRAINERS
Style Notes: With denim originating in France, it's no surprise that our gallic friends know exactly how to style it. Both jeans and denim jackets are wardrobe staples, so combining the two with a relaxed trainer is an easy way to add a directional feel to staples.
Shop the Look:
We think Toteme's denim jacket will be a cult favourite in no time.
6. LEATHER + LEATHER + KNITTED TOP
Style Notes: We all know that leather separates are some of the toastiest pieces you can wear, so when temperatures plummet, why not wear them top-to-toe like Loïcka did?
Shop the Look:
7. COLLARED BLOUSE + KNITTED VEST + JEANS
Style Notes: Knitted vests are still going to be a key investment for autumn. Pair yours with other standout wardrobe staples, such as a collared blouse and flare jeans, to truly subscribe to the French aesthetic.
Shop the Look:
8. CHECK BLAZER + RUFFLE SHIRT + SHORTS
Style Notes: So many French women own checked blazers, making them a must if you want to emulate their immaculate style. We love how Camille has styled hers with a ruffled blouse and shorts for a romantic spin.
Shop the Look:
9. KNITTED DRESS + KITTEN HEEL BOOTS
Style Notes: Ribbed knit dresses paired with kitten heel boots perfectly showcase the chic Parisian aesthetic, and adding a waisted belt is a great way to add some structure to a loose dress.
