I Just Tried the £339 Skincare Tool VB and Alexa Chung Both Love
Generally speaking, I take a celebrity beauty endorsement with a pinch of salt. I get to try a lot of new beauty products as part of my job and so typically I think that the proof is in the pudding when it comes to working out which ones are worth the hype—and all too often celebs only give a product their seal of approval when they are being paid to do so. As for celebrity beauty brands? Well that’s a rant for a whole other day, but suffice to say A-lister involvement is not a marker of efficacy for me. However, despite everything I have just said, there are a couple of celebrity names that always pique my interest and it just so happens that both of them have given their seal of approval to the product that I’m reviewing today: the Foreo UFO 3 device.
A truly innovative skincare device aiming to increase your skin’s moisture levels, improve texture and tone, and help the absorption of the skincare ingredients, the Foreo UFO is definitely a skincare investment—but the result are so impressive that both Victoria Beckham and Alexa Chung have relied on this tool to prep their skin before photo shoots and red carpet events. In fact, Beckham has even used it on her models backstage at fashion week before. But, what exactly is it and how does it work?
What is the Foreo UFO 3?
Truly a beauty industry innovation, the Foreo UFO 3 is a real first of its kind skincare tool. It combines the latest in skincare technology with targeted mask formulations to provide expert facial treatments in the comfort of your own home and in just 90 seconds. And the list of this little tool's capabilities really does read impressively like a spa menu…
First up, it uses something called hyper-infusion technology to both warm up and cool down, which helps relax your skin and allow the active ingredients to penetrate more deeply, while reducing puffiness and the appearance of pores. It also uses T-zone pulsations to mimic a facial massage, which not only makes your mask treatment more effective, but also helps to boost radiance and firm the skin. Finally, the UFO uses full-spectrum LED lights (including red to stimulate collagen, green to even skin tone, and blue to minimise breakouts) to provide targeted phototherapy treatments to rejuvenate your skin.
However, such impressive claims means that it comes with an impressive price tag to boot—and at £339 the Foreo UFO 3 is certainly a considered purchase.
What are the benefits of using the Foreo UFO?
The fact that you can enjoy such high-tech skin benefits in just 90 seconds means this certainly sounds like a facial treatment designed with busy women in mind. Which is why it's no surprise Alexa Chung shared on Instagram Stories that her makeup artist, Ciara O'Shea, had used the device to prep her skin ahead of a shoot. Similarly, Foreo was backstage at Victoria Beckham for her S/S 19 show with the H2Overdose smart mask to help the models achieve fresh, glowy skin for their bare-faced makeup looks.
For me, the best thing about the Foreo UFO though is how personalised it is. Along with a vast array of masks (there are options for hydrating, purifying, brightening and more) the tool itself links to an app on your phone so that you can really customise the type of LED lights, cryo or thermo therapy and sonic massage that your skin needs every single time you use it.
Is the Foreo UFO worth the money?

All in all, this skincare tool certainly sounds impressive (I'm sure you'll agree), but does it actually deliver? Well, in a word, yes. I have to admit I'm genuinely impressed I've been with this skincare tool. Yes, it's undoubtedly expensive, but I have been hugely surprised at how much brighter my skin looks immediately after using it (it was literally like I'd just had a 30-minute facial) and the LED light therapy felt incredibly soothing. Not only are the visible results impressive, but using the device was simple too: You download an app, scan the mask barcode and the device does the rest.
However, we can't talk about this device without talking about the cost. Parting with £339 is a huge expense and to really get your money's worth for something like this I'd want it to be a tool that I'd use every single day. However, bearing in mind that it needs to be used in conjunction with the dedicated Foreo UFO masks, which vary from £11 to £21 for packs of 6 or 7 masks—it isn't purely a one-off cost that you have to take into account. Personally, this isn't something that I'd use every day because of these expenses, but would think of it are more of a weekly treat or something to use before a special occasion.
Price aside though, Ive tried the UFO in conjunction with the Foreo mattifying masks, glow-boosting treatments and hyaluronic-drenched solutions, and can confirm that my initial experience wasn't just a one-off. Every single time I've used this skincare tool, my complexion has looked better than before—and with continued use, I can only imagine that my skin will thank me.
Shop the Foreo UFO 3:
Treat your skin to a 90-second facial with seriously impressive results.
Pros: It really does leave your skin as bright and plump as if you've just had a professional facial.
Cons: The device itself is expensive and the masks themselves are also pricey.
Shop my other Foreo favourites:
A ginseng- and olive oil–infused sheet mask that can be used in conjunction with the Foreo UFO to nourish and moisturise the skin at night.
My morning mask of choice, this purifying formula soaks up excess oil with detoxifying charcoal to leave skin feeling clean and looking balanced.
I've spoken before about my love for Foreo electric cleansing tools, but this new launch is even better than the original. It makes light work of removing trapped oil and dirt for an intense clean, and features massaging benefits to de-puff and tone.
Yes, it looks like a sex toy, but this is another Foreo device I didn't know I was missing until I used it. It works by mimicking a fingertip massage to relieve tired eyes, combat puffiness and improve the absorption of your eye cream.
This blemish treatment pen uses blue light to precisely target breakouts and spots to deal with the bacteria at the root of the issue. I was skeptical about this, but it really does help to heal and reduce big blemishes.
This is a new discovery for me and is an incredibly unique skincare device that is impressing me so far. Combining microdermabrasion, vacuum suction and sonic massage, it works to improve skin tone, unclog pores, renew the skin and improve the absorption of your skincare. It's early days but I'm already seeing some improvement to acne scarring and pigmentation on my cheeks.
