The Exact Coats, Boots, and Sweaters I'm Buying This Winter
My winter wardrobe has been in pretty good shape the last few years thanks to some investment purchases I've worn to death—from my secretly shearling-lined ankle boots (shout-out to The Row's sample sale) to my winter-weight blazers. This is the first winter in a while that I've intentionally set out to shop for things I need, versus just haphazardly falling in love with random things.
In terms of my winter shopping list, there are just a few key things I'm after this season: New York City eats footwear alive, so it's time to hit refresh there. I've also been deep in the sweater game ever since I interviewed some of my fashion-industry friends about where they like to shop for all their cool knitwear. And finally, it's coat season, and I've never regretted having more outerwear options. Plus, I've just donated a couple of things, so it's time to add another style (or two?) into my winter rotation. Here are the exact coats, boots, and sweaters I'm buying for winter (and some equally great alternative options just in case they sell out).
&Daughter Knits
I really don't have the words to explain how much I love &Daughter, a highly covetable brand of slow knitwear made responsibly in the UK and Ireland. I'm in the midst of deciding which style is most deserving of a spot in my wardrobe, as there are way too many worthy of consideration. From luxe, oversize turtlenecks to collared cardigans to menswear-inspired V-necks in a rainbow of punchy colors, the brand offers all things cozy.
Coats With Scarves
I didn't realize I was going to be so into coats with detachable scarves again this season, but the current offering has me excited about them all over again. I love that Toteme has doubled down on its viral style, introducing a longer version in addition to the original. And if you're into burgundy, Mango has one that's really going to speak to you.
Loafer Boots
My wardrobe needed another option for super-comfortable, extremely walkable winter footwear, so here we are. Mine are from Massimo Dutti and are rapidly selling out, so definitely don't snooze on them if they're still in stock in your size. If you miss out, though, there are a slew of alt suede or leather styles on the internet, including plenty of elevated horse-bit styles.
Memorable Cardigans
The more the pendulum swings towards understated knitwear, the harder it swings back in the other direction. As such, I have an itch to scratch for decidedly non-boring cardigans. Floral appliqué, embellished cashmere, metallic threading, embroidered mohair… come at me. I'm delighted to own the below cardigan from Leret Leret (home of the most fun cashmere), and couldn't be more thrilled to discover one of my favorite New Zealand brands, Wynn Hamlyn, now has its viral flower cardigan stocked on Revolve.
A Leather Coat
As we move past temperatures where our bomber jackets are sufficient, leather and vegan leather coats and trenches are next in line. Black is always worthy of consideration (I'm including some great options below), but since I already have that locked down thanks to a Mango style from last season, it's the deep greens and browns that are speaking to me.
