I've Created the Perfect Autumn Capsule From M&S With These 24 Expensive-Looking Pieces
As the first hints of autumn begin to appear, there's a distinct shift in the air that signals it's time to reassess our wardrobes. Gone are the breezy dresses and sandals of summer, replaced by the need for cosier, more substantial pieces that can carry us through cooler days and longer nights. For me, this change in season brings a renewed excitement for layering up, embracing richer fabrics and adding a touch of warmth to my everyday looks. And when it comes to finding those perfect cold-weather staples that strike the right balance between style and comfort, I always turn to Marks and Spencer.
M&S has long been my go-to for autumn fashion, and it's not hard to see why. Its collections always perfectly marry style with practicality, offering pieces that are as functional as they are fashionable. Whether it's a classic trench that pulls together any outfit or a cashmere sweater that feels like a hug in clothing form, M&S consistently delivers on quality and design. Its knitwear and denim, in particular, I rely on year after year; and over the past few seasons, I've been very impressed with the design-led accessories, having added more than a few M&S handbags to my collection.
This year, I'm all about refreshing my autumn roster with some new pieces M&S is already championing. From luxe knitwear I can't wait to cosy up in to statement footwear that will carry me through the season in style (and comfort), there are six key items I'm interested in adding to my wardrobe. And I'm already planning my looks: the Wide Palazzo Leg Jeans (£45) will look so good with chunky loafers for a chic daytime look, and I'll be elevating my outerwear game with the Double Breasted Blazer With Wool (£119). These are the pieces that will define my autumn style, and trust me: once you see what M&S has to offer this season, you'll feel the same.
6 SOPHISTICATED AUTUMN TRENDS FROM M&S
1. Luxe Knitwear
Available in a range of neutral tones, this jumper is as versatile as it gets. Pair with high-waisted jeans for an easy daytime look, or tuck into a midi skirt for a more polished outfit.
This cardigan is all about the details with its thin wool texture and button-front design. Layer it over a turtleneck for extra warmth or wear it solo with statement jewellery.
A true wardrobe essential, this cashmere sweater is buttery soft and available in several classic shades. It's the kind of piece that'll last you for years if you look after it.
This striped jumper strikes the perfect balance between cosy and chic. Wear it with dark-wash denim and knee-high boots for a polished autumnal look, or dress it down with trainers for the weekend.
2. Fresh Denim
Everyone needs a pair of straight-leg jeans in their wardrobe, and these have a universally flattering cut with a slightly faired end and come in several washes. A no-brainer.
For a more contemporary silhouette, these wide-leg jeans are the way to go. I'd style them with a tucked-in knit and ankle boots for an effortlessly chic outfit.
I know what you're thinking: skinny jeans?! But hear me out. A pair of grey skinnies with an oversized blazer, white tee and loafers is a fail-safe autumn office look.
The high waist on these mom jeans is perfect for tucking in blouses and knits. The vintage-inspired fit feels fresh for autumn, especially when paired with loafers or boots.
3. Elevated Outerwear
An autumn essential, this trench is perfect for layering over everything from jeans to dresses. The soft wool fabric ensures you stay warm during the breezy months and belted waist make it both practical and stylish.
Blazers are always a reliable outerwear option, and this double-breasted navy version is great for adding structure to a casual outfit or making your workwear a bit more fashion-forward.
This refined leather jacket combines timeless design with modern details like ruched edges and a slightly boxy fit. It's the perfect coat for those days you need to look polished but still want to feel cosy and warm.
Stay warm without sacrificing style in this classic camel coat. The sleek yet relaxed design makes it a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down.
4. Sleek Bags
For a more trend-forward option, this burgundy utility bag is the way to go. It's the perfect size for carrying just the essentials and will add a stylish touch to any look.
Ideal when you're on the go, this crossbody bag has an adjustable strap that allows you to wear it at the perfect length, and the multiple compartments will keep you organised.
If you need an office bag that can do it all, this briefcase-style one is ideal. The roomy interior and sturdy handles make it perfect for work.
This tote is spacious enough to carry all your essentials and then some. The faux leather is so soft that it had me questioning whether it wasn't the real thing, and the minimal design makes it a piece that will elevate even the simplest of outfits.
5. The Perfect Autumn Shirt
The satin fabric feels luxurious against the skin, and the draped fit makes it perfect for tucking into high-waisted trousers or skirts.
A classic white shirt is a year-round essential, and this cotton oversized version is perfect for autumn. The crisp fabric and tailored fit make it ideal for layering under a chunky knit or wearing solo with statement jewellery.
For a more laid-back option, this corduroy overshirt is a great choice. It’s perfect for adding a bit of texture to your outfit and can be worn open over a turtleneck or buttoned up with jeans.
I am partial to a crisp black shirt—it makes every outfit that much better. And the subtle thin pinstripes on this one are just so chic.
6. Elegant Dresses
When you want to feel put together with minimal effort, this is the kind of dress to reach for. The olive-green shade gives off just the right amount of autumnal energy, and the midi length is ideal for colder weather.
I couldn't do an autumnal capsule edit without including a brown dress. I love the ruching on this one; it's the definition of an office-to-dinner dress.
I'm very into this leather and lace slip dress for an unexpected yet refined evening option. Throw a blazer over the top to keep it cool.
If you're looking for something a bit more structured, look no further than this bandeau dress. The tailored fit, minimalist design and affordable price make it a winner.
7. Reliable Footwear
A pair of heeled ankle boots is a must-have for autumn, and these are as comfortable as they are stylish. The block heel and sleek design make them super versatile.
Autumn is loafer season, and this chunky pair is a great way to get in on the action. They're perfect for adding a bit of edge to your workwear or pairing with jeans and a knit on the weekend.
