If You Think Autumnal Dressing Is Boring, These 4 Looks Will Prove Otherwise

Autumn is just around the corner, and I couldn't be more excited—it's hands down my favourite season. There's something about the crisp air, shorter days and changing leaves that just sparks joy in me. But let's be honest: the best part is the fashion. Yes, sweater weather is my time to shine. The layers, the textures, the opportunity to play with boots and coats… no other season offers the same styling potential.
So, imagine my confusion when someone recently told me they found autumn dressing "boring" because of the colour palette. I beg to differ. Sure, autumn might not have the pastels of spring or the bold brights of summer, but the rich, earthy tones and deep jewel hues are anything but boring. Rusty oranges, deep browns, olive greens and timeless neutrals allow us to build a sophisticated wardrobe full of character.
These colours have always been my go-tos for cold-weather dressing, whether I'm pairing a chocolate-toned turtleneck with tonal tailored trousers or adding a flush of burgundy with accessories. I've never felt limited by autumn's palette; in fact, I feel liberated. It's all about knowing which pieces to invest in and how to style them in a way that suits your taste whilst still staying warm.
That's why, when I hear people complain that autumn fashion is "dull", I can't help but think they're just not working with the right pieces. Dressing for the season doesn't have to mean sacrificing style for practicality; it's more about finding those perfect items that elevate your look and keep you cosy. Enter Mango's new collection, The Selection. I've already been sharing the pieces with friends who need a little inspiration to embrace autumn dressing with open arms, and now it's your turn.
Now, Mango has always been a brand that understands the balance between timeless style and current trends. But I have to say, autumn is where it truly shines. From beautifully structured coats to luxurious knits, Mango knows how to create pieces that work for the season but still feel fresh. What I love most about The Selection is that it celebrates everyday elegance with a mix of modern tailoring and relaxed silhouettes—perfect for the fluidity of today's lifestyle. Whether it's a day at the office, brunch with friends or a weekend getaway, Mango has the right pieces to fit every occasion.
During my quest to convert autumn-sceptics, I found myself falling even harder for Mango—especially with the new collection. Crafted from high-quality fabrics and designed to last, this edition of The Selection is about timeless classics reimagined with contemporary fits. Danish stylist Alex Carl lent her expertise to the collection, ensuring each piece feels powerful yet practical. I wanted to style four looks from the collection to show you just how exciting autumn dressing can be.
Style Notes: For my first look, I built an outfit around the Detachable Vest Wool Coat, which in my opinion, is a must-have for colder days. It's chic but also functional, thanks to the versatility of the detachable vest. I layered it over the Cotton Pleated Shirt, which gives just the right amount of drama to an otherwise simple top. The wide-leg Odette Jeans in a low-rise fit perfectly balance the look, adding a relaxed but tailored vibe. To keep things interesting, I added a pop of colour with the Mini Satin Bowling Bag in green—a small touch that really elevates the outfit. The Kitten Heel Leather Shoes and Fine Leather Belt round out the ensemble without overcomplicating things. This look is perfect for a day of meetings, transitioning effortlessly into a dinner out.

Style Notes: Here, I went all-in on autumnal textures. The star of this outfit is the Leather Belted Trench Coat. A little edgy yet timeless, it's ideal for days when the weather demands a heavier outer layer. Underneath, I kept things simple with a classic Wool Turtleneck Top in cream and Pleated Suit Trousers. The monochrome tones work so well together, making the look feel polished without being too stiff. To add even more texture, I accessorised with the Long Leather Gloves and Leather Buckle Shopper Bag. The High Leather Boots complete the look, keeping things grounded and ensuring I stay warm without sacrificing style.

Style Notes: This look proves that grey is anything but boring. I started with the Belted Double-Breasted Coat in a rich, deep grey, which manages to be both refined and statement-making. To play into the monochrome theme, I paired it with the 100% Wool Cardigan—the buttons add just a bit of detail to break up the look—and the High-Waist Flared Trousers. This outfit will be my go-to for a cosy yet put-together day out—think coffee, errands and plans with friends. The mix of textures stops the look from feeling one-note, making it interesting and super chic.

Style Notes: Finally, my last outfit has a more laid-back, off-duty feel. The 100% Suede Blazer is such a standout piece and adds structure to the otherwise relaxed Wool Hooded Jumper. I paired these with the same Odette Wide-Leg Jeans I wore in the first look, proving just how versatile they are. The suede and wool textures together make this outfit ideal for a chillier day without feeling too bundled up. I finished the look with the Round-Toe Ballet Flats, which are comfy but still stylish, making this outfit perfect for any casual outing.
