My Goal This Season is to Look Smart, Elegant and Incredibly Chic—This Simple Two-Piece Outfit Will Help Me Get There

Every season, the runway shows bring a handful of It pieces to the fore and determine the trends that will dominate the months ahead. This spring, nestled in among the bold colours, frothy skirting and exuberant handbags were suits. And they were sharp in every way. Saint Laurent presented an '80s-inspired capsule of refined tailoring and the likes of Dries Van Noten and Stella McCartney followed suit (excuse the pun!) with tailored top halves combined with silk trousers for an unexpected air of nonchalance.

The news of suits on the runway this season was well received by many, particularly people needing to adhere to a formal dress code (where the common consensus is that it can be lackluster), but even to the most casual and stylish of dresses. In 2025, suits flirt with elegance and transcend just a blazer and trouser combo, instead encompassing everything from soft summer tailoring and silken two-pieces to directional pairings that feel fresher than ever.

One of SS25's heroes lauded by the fashion set is a structured design complete with a nipped-in silhouette (like Wardrobe NYC's sell-out Twill Blazer dress, for example), where the rigidity paired with shapely element equals the ultimate power suit. Other styles gaining popularity are extremely relaxed vintage iterations, and even skirt suits, which see a pencil skirt paired with a matching blazer, cropped or not.
