I'm Never Without This Classic Espadrille—3 New Ways I'm Styling It This Spring

In New York City, three things signify the start of spring: tulips in planters, blossoming trees, and the resurgence of espadrille shoes on the feet of every fashion person. It's a classic shoe that never goes out of style and looks good with everything. Need proof? Just look to my colleague, fashion editor Jasmine Fox-Suliaman, who recently put me on to Franco Sarto's iconic Clemens style. Espadrilles are Jasmine's go-to spring shoe because of their versatility, comfort, and European look, and they carried her around the city in style last week. Jasmine's stamp of approval and my desire to incorporate more comfortable heels into my everyday wardrobe have me running to shop the latest arrivals from Franco Sarto. "For my first look, I wanted to choose an outfit that could be worn for a casual weekend running around the city. Since these wedges are inspired by denim, they were the most obvious option for an off-duty weekend ensemble. Plus, they have padding in the heel for maximum comfort. For my clothing, I drew inspiration from the footwear's casual (but classic) color scheme. While you can definitely style these wedges with jeans, I recommend wearing them with other denim separates or denim-inspired items to make them pop. These shoes would look cute with a white dress and a light denim jacket or tan tailored shorts and a light-wash denim button-down. I think playing with color-blocking is the best way to show off these espadrilles for the season." — Jasmine Fox Suliaman, Fashion Editor
"For my second look, I wanted to show how these shoes could be worn to the office during the spring and summer. Espadrilles often embody 'out of office' energy, which I love, but this style can work around the clock. Considering that these white espadrilles are on the casual side, I decided to dress them up by styling them with a white blazer, tank top, and tailored trousers. White suits are the perfect way to make your work wardrobe feel a bit more seasonal, and they go exceptionally well with spring-forward footwear styles." — Fox-Suliaman
"Typically, when I'm putting together an outfit for spring, I like to start from the ground up because it sets the tone for the entire look. Since this version of the espadrille wedge is black, tan, and raffia, I wanted to keep the rest of the look minimalist. I styled the shoes with a black midi dress because the colors pair well and the dress's length makes the shoes the focal point. I finished off the look by adding a pair of vintage gold clip-on earrings to match the gold hardware on the footwear." — Fox-Suliaman
