This Classic Sandals Brand Was Big 10 Years Ago—Now, It’s Having a Major Comeback
I don't know about you, but as we get closer to summer, the siren call of finding the perfect summer sandals to accompany my sun-soaked adventures is only growing stronger. Enter Ancient Greek Sandals. Of course, you've probably heard of this shoe brand before—it's been a stalwart on the shopping scene since launching in 2011 and is always a reliable source for classic, anti-trend styles. Still, it's fair to say it's been somewhat overlooked as other buzzy brands dominated the spotlight. However, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait, and Ancient Greek sandals are long overdue for a revival.
Ancient Greek Sandals has become known for blending traditional craftspersonship with modern-day twists, thus creating timeless and polished shoes that are more interesting and made to a higher standard than what you might find on the high street. Fashion people have been wearing Ancient Greek sandals for well over a decade, but now I'm seeing more and more influencers and editors reaching for them once more, even in place of more cult sandal styles. It turns out that not only is the brand due to a big comeback—it's already experiencing one.
One glance at Lucy Williams's Instagram feed makes it clear why these sandals are back in favour. Her simple styling of the brand's signature Mera sandals is a masterclass in summer sophistication—just add linen trousers, and you're pretty much set. With their clean lines and enduring appeal, Williams's sandals have the power to elevate even the simplest of outfits. Meanwhile, Camille Charriere added a French-girl twist by incorporating her Ancient Greek Leftheria sandals with a printed skirt and knitted coverup.
If you need even more convincing, I can personally vouch for the Ancient Greek Sandals hype. I own and practically can't live without the Kansiz sandals, and I already know they'll be the most-worn shoe in my collection this summer. Despite countless miles of walking the rubbled streets of Rome last year, I felt no sore spots at all, and I was glad that I didn't have to compromise on my style for comfort either. Fashion influencer Lois Sterling is right behind me, styling hers with easy black linen and a Dragon Diffusion basket bag.
This is a major part of the Ancient Greek sandal appeal—they go with everything, be it breezy summer dresses or laid-back jeans looks; I know they stand me in good stead. I've already got outfits planned for my holidays this summer that include my growing collection of Ancient Greeks, though given their impressive track record, I can always be persuaded to invest in another pair.
If you're searching for the perfect summer sandals that are comfortable and chic in equal measure, you can call off the pursuit. Scroll on to see and shop my edit of the best Ancient Greek sandals.
