I Almost Gave Up Hope of Ever Finding Good Wide-Leg Trousers—Then I Tried This £65 Pair
Brace yourself, for I am about to say something shocking: Up until relatively recently I didn't wear trousers. I owned about two pairs of jeans which, yes, I relied on for casual outings, but as far as actual trousers go, I had one black style shoved to the back of a drawer that I only really brought into daylight when it was absolutely necessary.
I put the years of trouser neglect down to a few things 1) I'm petite in height, and any trousers I seemed to try were far, far too long. And 2) I have a very defined hourglass shape—a small waist and very shapely hips, bum and thighs. This combination always inevitably required a trip to the tailors to get the right trouser fit and this seemed a superfluous step to make trousers that I wasn't all that fussed about in the first place work better on my frame. So, I did the thing any time-poor person who already has a wardrobe filled with pretty dresses and skirts would do—I gave up the search for a decent pair of wide-leg trousers. However, as of this month, everything changed.
What Are Abercrombie's Sloane Trousers?
Currently in the early stages of prepping my February fashion month outfits, I have a cream coat that I want to wear but, seeing as it's winter and all, I knew a slip dress underneath just wouldn't cut it. My trusty jeans weren't the vibe I was going for either. Trousers were the most fitting option, but where would I find a pair that I loved and made me feel good wearing them? That was going to be a tall order, or at least I thought it was. After consulting with my colleagues and reading online reviews, one specific pair kept cropping up: Abercrombie's Sloane tailored trousers.
With a wide-leg cut, darts to the front of the waistband that create an elegant drape and a healthy array of colours to choose from, things certainly looked promising. What really piqued my interest was when a fellow hourglass-shaped editor mentioned how great the brand's Curve Love cut is: "They actually fit my waist and have enough room for my thighs!". A miracle, I thought. The style also comes in a straight fit, too, so if you prefer your trousers to sit more loosely on the waist, this might be what you need to opt for.
What Sizes Do Abercrombie's Sloane Trousers Come In?
When I landed on the product page, I was surprised at the array of sizes and lengths on offer—the waistband goes from sizes 23 to 37 (that's size 4 to 26 in UK size speak) and the length is available in short, regular and long lengths. I was impressed—for a brand that used to fall short when it came to inclusivity, this is a huge improvement.
I ordered Abercrombie's Sloane trousers in two colours—the cream and the black—and waited patiently for them to arrive. When they did, I knew things were looking good before I took them out from their transparent sleeves. The fabric was clearly weighty and holding them out in front of me confirmed this; they hang beautifully.
How Do Abercrombie's Sloane Trousers Fit?
Due to stock levels and being unsure of the sizing, I ordered a 29 in the black and 30 in the cream. I was hesitant. Although my measurements categorise me as being a pretty true size 12, I often find that I have to size up in trousers, if not twice, just to get them to fit comfortably on my thighs. However, Abercrombie came through.
Both trousers fit me like a dream, the cream naturally being a little looser than the black, but not to the point where I didn't like them. For me, this is the biggest plus—the fact that I didn't need to size up means that I don't think you'd need to size up either, and that the range is genuinely reflective of catering to a size 26. I'm between 5" 3' and 5" 4' and opted for the short length. On me, they gently skim the floor when I'm in flat shoes or kitten heels.
Abercrombie Sloane Trousers: The Verdict
I don't use the word "perfect" often in my line of work, but I think these trousers might just be that. At £65, they aren't the cheapest on the market, but they certainly aren't the most expensive—not even close! Genuinely, I feel like a new woman now that I have some Abercrombie Sloane trousers in my life, and I think you could benefit from them, too.
