Forget Skirts and Dresses—This Is the Fresh Way Everyone Is Wearing Tights RN
Rounding out what's turned into my little series of stories this month that dabble in both tights trends and not just one, but two stories about some slightly controversial shoe trends, I bring you the news that shorts and tights are officially a thing that’s happening.
Surprisingly, I’m quite into it—given the recent rise of pedal pushers, was this really so far behind? Somehow it feels like the natural evolution of the far more spicy, Miu Miu–inspired “tights as pants” situation we all either loved or hated a few seasons ago. I am (less surprisingly) more of a long, tailored shorts kinda gal, so this really just makes sense given the investment so many of us made in Bermuda shorts over the summer.
From teeny tiny hot pants to chic baggy shorts, here are just some of the ways shorts and tights are being styled by fashion people this winter.
These teeny tailored shorts feel elevated when they're balanced out with sheer tights, a chic turtleneck, and a leather blazer. Throw in slingback pumps, a black leather belt, a collar necklace, and a top-handle bag, and you've got yourself an elegant look.
This cool, slouchy look is so practical and wearable, and the long wool coat makes it the perfect entry-level shorts and tights outfit. Also, if you didn't know about gray and brown, now you know.
Rich textures make it clear this evening-ready look is prepared to go out. Leather-look shorts paired with sheer tights and that sheen of a satin shirt feels particularly luxe, and the gold hardware of that Chloé bag stands in for statement jewelry.
And now, for something a little more chill: These longer, tailored Bermuda shorts look so polished when belted and paired with the softness of an oversized cardigan. For some reason, I hadn't considered sheer knee-high tights with shorts and loafers, but this is the look that has me convinced.
