When I think of someone who embodies classic style, my colleague Kristen Nichols is the first person who comes to mind. She has mastered the art of dressing elegantly with minimal effort and maximum effect, so it was a dream to go shopping with her at one of her favorite stores, AG.

Before making the move to NYC, Nichols lived in Los Angeles. "The West Coast heavily influenced my style—specifically my affinity for denim," she says. According to her, "L.A. is the unofficial denim capital of the world. [It's also] where AG is based, and the brand taps into what is great about denim, from the fit to the fabric." I couldn't agree more. We had the pleasure of stopping by the AG store on Madison Avenue in New York's Upper East Side to see its latest fall collection, and Kristen did not leave empty-handed. Keep reading to see all the pieces that made their way from the fitting room into Kristen's shopping bag.

"I'm looking for workhorse pieces that have versatile styling possibilities and can be worn all season long. Namely, classic staples such as tailored button-up shirts, straight-leg jeans, and crewneck cashmere knits. I've practically lived in straight-leg dark denim recently, and I already know this Brinley silhouette from AG will be a go-to style for fall. It's a shape that is endlessly versatile, whether I'm wearing a dressier look for dinner or something more casual. Here, I styled the jeans with a crewneck black T-shirt, slingback flats, and a camel cashmere sweater. I like to play around with draping the sweater over my shoulders or tying it around my neck." — Kristen Nichols, Associate Director, Special Projects

"One of the biggest trends we saw in fall/winter 2024 collections was a return to classic sportswear. On the runways, designers reworked the classics and proposed a new take on the everyday uniform. I always return to the classics, but I like to add modern touches. For a pop of color, I was immediately drawn to this pink-and-white collared shirt, a piece I like to wear buttoned at the wrists or unbuttoned with folded cuffs. It pairs perfectly with the Adria jeans, which have a low-slung, relaxed fit and are finished in a medium-blue wash." — Nichols

"This fall, the shift towards elegant style and classic American sportswear is influencing my looks and purchases. Lately, my uniform has revolved around a great pair of jeans, a button-up shirt, and a crewneck knit. These pieces are so versatile and can be transformed into a number of different looks with small styling tweaks. For this look, I tucked the collared shirt into the white straight-leg jeans, tied the sweater over my shoulders, and added a pair of slingback flats." — Nichols
