Indulge with me for a moment: What destination embodies summer in your mind? With picturesque beaches, dreamy hotels, and almost year-round sunny weather, Australia has always been the embodiment of summer (for me, at least). Even more so considering that there are so many Australian fashion designers who excel at creating summer collections—ranging from swimwear-focused brands to minimalist resort wear labels. Being that so many Aussie brands have become known for their warm-weather essentials, there's truly no better to turn to when shopping for the summer.
No matter if you're in search of a sundress, swimsuit, or sandals chances are you can find the perfect version from an Aussie brand. However, if you're unfamiliar with which brands should be on your radar, you'll want to keep reading. After hours of research taking into account brand popularity, quality, and price point, I've compiled a comprehensive list of the 12 best Australian fashion brands to shop during the summer (and beyond). Even if you don't have a trip planned to explore the great outback, these brands will surely bring a slice of summer to your zip code.
Matteau
One brand that embodies the ethos of "less is more" is Matteau. Founded by the Aussie sister duo Ilona Hamer and Peta Heinsen in 2015, the brand has become known for its clean swimwear silhouettes and timeless dress styles. No matter what you buy from this brand, you can be assured that they're made to be appreciated for years to come.
Wait until you see the back of this dress.
DISSH
Attaining the "quiet luxury" aesthetic doesn't have to be costly. Case in point? Dissh. Since its inception in 2001, the Aussie brand has been the destination for the style set to shop elegant everyday staples as they offer everything from tailored suits to dramatic dresses. But what has cemented its cult status is that every chic item is surprisingly cheap, making it an attainable addition to anyone's closet.
Sir.
If there's one Aussie brand that's managed to capture the collective imagination of the fashion crowd, it's for sure SIR. With an acronym that stands for separates, intimates, and ready-to-wear, the Bondi-beach-based label aims to fill the gap in women's wardrobes through contemporary takes on classic staples. Although its collections typically lean more minimalist by drawing inspiration from the muses of the '70s, each piece embodies an air of effortless elegance.

Posse
If you've spent any time on social media, then you've likely already become acquainted with Posse (even if you didn't realize it). Founded by Danielle Mulham in 2016, the Australian-based brand has blown up on social media over the past few summers. For the record, the hype is worth it. With a focus on quality fabrics, feminine details, and functional silhouettes, the brand's collections cater to the cravings every cool person has when it comes to summer clothing. Trust me, you can't go wrong with investing in any item from this brand.
St. Agni
Australia has had some of the most exciting brands emerge in the past few years, including the likes of St. Agni. Founded by the husband-and-wife duo Lara and Matt Fells in 2014, the Byron Bay–based brand has made its mark on the global market. Its minimalist approach to womenswear sets the brand apart—collections often center sleek '90s-inspired silhouettes and precise tailoring, all fashioned from sustainably sourced materials. St. Agni's clothing has shown us that true luxury is not defined by its borders but by whether it can stand the test of time.
Did your jaw just drop? Mine sure did.
VRG Girl
Although there are a great deal of Australian brands that have become known for their minimal collections, they're not the only ones worthy of note. One brand that's managed to distinguish itself from the crowd? Vrg Girl. Founded by the Brisbane-based sisters Natalia and Daniella Dionyssiou in 2007, the label has carved out a niche in the industry because of its creative approach to classic wardrobe items. By incorporating trending colors, hand-drawn prints, and unique hardware, the brand makes even the most "cliché" summer pieces ten times cooler.
Beare Park
One of the best things about Australian fashion brands is that they're at the forefront of innovation—simply refer to Beare Park as proof. Founded by Gabriella Pereira in 2021, the sustainable luxury label is creating a path toward a more circular fashion industry through championing craftsmanship, quality materials, and tailoring that transcends trends. It's the place to shop if you're hoping to curate a closet that reflects your chic tastes as much as the causes that matter most to you.

With Jéan
Don't be confused by the name; the fashion brand With Jéan is actually an export from Sydney, Australia. The buzzy label is the brainchild of best friends Sami Lorking-Tanner and Evangeline Titilas, who sought to provide a sense of exploration through stylish clothing. Although they call Australia home, each collection draws inspiration from cities around the world—which is evident through the usage of bold prints, vibrant colors, and feminine silhouettes. It's the brand's unique approach to design that has led to it quickly being adopted into the closets of creatives in every zip code.
Consider this your sign it's time to embrace the sheer clothing trend.

Christopher Esber
Not to be dramatic, but it would be a crime not to mention one of the coolest brands to come from Australia: Christopher Esber. Ever since the Sydney-born designer launched his eponymous label in 2010, it's managed to command the attention of the global stage. What's made the brand so compelling over the years is that it's known for mixing masculine and feminine codes to create collections with a thoroughly modern point of view. With a variety of unique silhouettes and unexpected accents, it's no surprise that the brand has become a universal part of the style set's summer wardrobes.

The brand recently expanded into footwear, BTW!
Anna Quan
Nine times out of ten, fashion people who are in the know are huge fans of one particular Aussie brand: Anna Quan. Since its founding in 2013, the namesake label has secured a cult following because of its contemporary reiterations of classic wardrobe items. With collections featuring every type of staple imaginable (from clean-cut T-shirts to crisply tailored waistcoats to cotton frocks that hug the curves), it's no wonder why this brand has become the place to buy elevated essentials.
Packing a light knit dress is a non-negotiable when traveling to windy beach destinations.
Venroy
If you were to imagine taking a little holiday to Australia, what would you pack? Chances are the clothing you're picturing can be found in one of Venroy's collections. Although the brand began when the Bondi-beach-based founder, Sean Venturi, tried to make the perfect pair of board shorts back in 2010, it's since expanded beyond that. Venroy now offers women's and menswear lines featuring stylish swimwear, resort separates, and everyday staples that are meant to spark fantasies about far-off vacation spots.
Shona Joy
While most might associate the summertime with days spent by the beach, another activity is central to this season: weddings. If you've got a nuptial ceremony on your calendar, then you've likely been wondering what to wear to adhere to that dress code. Enter Shona Joy into the chat. Founded in 2000, the Sydney-based label was founded to create chic clothing for special occasions while catering to the more extreme climate of Australia. Whether you're planning on attending a black-tie event, beach ceremony, or simply going on a girl's trip in the dead of summer, rest assured your perfect piece can be purchased here.

Hansen & Gretel
By now, I hope to have proved that some of the best fashion brands are Australian-born and bred. But if you still need convincing, I beg you to get acquainted with Hansen & Gretel. Founded by Ainsley Hansen in 2012, the brand has become beloved among the fashion crowd for blending "masculine" tailoring with "feminine" details (collections will often feature pieces such as a button-down shirt made from sheer material or low-slung trousers with a tie-up waist). The brand can strike duality through all its separates which makes it one of the best places to shop during the summertime (and any season for that matter).
