5 Wardrobe Updates You Should Definitely Make in 2018

As you've probably seen from all the content we've created this year for Who What Wear UK, when we find something that works for us, we tend to wear it to death. We're all about wise investments and uncovering the kind of classics you didn't even know would last year in, year out. Just think of the uniform we both established going into our 30s. Or the way we've learnt to actually spend more on certain items that never date—like a good leather biker jacket, for example.

These kinds of wardrobe tactics don't mean we stick to the same old things—we're just as prone to wanting newness as the next girl. Hence why in the New Year, we're going to force ourselves to make some wardrobe updates based around the pieces we already love and cherish. The New Year is the perfect time to update your closet in the easiest way possible; think of what you love wearing, and look for the way that designers and stores have decided to bring that a little refresh in 2018. Or you could be lazy (yay) and just read our take on this fashion update concept. Keep scrolling to see the five things we already love and the new-season versions that are heading into our wardrobes.

2017 Favourite: Pleated Skirts

2018 Update: Pencil Skirts

A pleated skirt has been a go-to in our wardrobe for the past two years. It's versatile—it looks just as good with trainers and a knit for the day as it does with a heel for the evening—but we feel it's time to adopt a new skirt trend. Next season we'll be channelling Carine Roitfeld with a longline pencil skirt.

2017 Favourite: Checked Blazers

2018 Update: Pastel Blazers

Checks had a huge moment this winter, and we haven't stopped wearing them in blazer form. We won't be chucking our checked blazers as they are classic, but come next year, we'll be updating our jacket collection with a shade or two of pastels. Baby blue, candy pink or pale yellow will give our wardrobe a much-needed refresh.

2017 Favourite: Ladylike Bags

2018 Update: Fun Bags

Okay, we're not retiring our whole handbag collection for crazy bags, but we're going to invest in one quirky style to jazz up our evening look. Perfect for the simple jeans/blazer combo we often turn to for a night out, a fun piece of arm candy will give any basic outfit a much-needed lift.

2017 Favourite: Straight-Cut Jeans

2018 Update: Cropped Straight-Cut Jeans

We've been embracing this trend for a while now. For some reason, our skinny jeans don't feel as current anymore, so we've been chopping off a few inches to make them cropped and frayed. If you're looking to invest in a new pair of jeans, we say go for a cropped straight leg. Cooler than a skinny, smarter than a boyfriend and more flattering than a mom style.

2017 Favourite: Tennis Sneakers

2018 Update: "Ugly" Sneakers

Every cool girl worth her fashion salt was rocking ugly trainers during Copenhagen Fashion Week, and we feel ready to embrace the trend. Longtime fans of simple tennis shoes, we're going to swap these in for clumpy trainers next year.
