I'm a Fashion Director—These Are the Key Trends to Wear Now and Into Next Year
It's always interesting to learn about style and trends through the lenses of various leaders in the industry. So we were all ears when Marissa Galante Frank, Bloomingdale's fashion director for accessories and beauty, wanted to let us in on the looks she thinks are key for the season. But rather than simply sharing the trends that matter to her right this second, Galante Frank wanted to highlight those trends that will hold strong now and will also be key players next year.
The trends in question run the gamut. On one end, she's all about some of those more statement-making trends to create forward, bold looks. And on the other end are more low-key trends that are highly versatile and easy to style. With all that in mind, keep scrolling for her trend edit below. You'll also find visual inspiration from various fashion people and shopping recommendations in case you're looking to add one of the trends to your 2022 wardrobe.
'90s Shoulder Bags
"The latest '90s trend to make a comeback is the '90s shoulder bag. This is currently the It handbag silhouette and will continue into 2022. It slings right under your shoulder and allows you to be hands-free from day to night. One style I love is Staud's Tommy bag that they continue to evolve each season with new beading and novelty details."
Matching Sets
"A key trend to incorporate into your wardrobe and one that will make getting dressed even easier are matching sets. This is an incredibly versatile trend, as you can wear them as a complete look or as separate pieces. In 2021, this trend is expressed through knit sets and going-out looks, and it will evolve next year by pairing crop tops with maxi skirts and resort shirts with shorts."
Loafers
"As many of us return to the office in 2022, we need a shoe that is chic yet comfortable. A loafer is the perfect transitional-weather style that you can wear across multiple seasons. Novelty details like studs, crystals, or a lug sole give this preppy classic a modern edge."
Shearling and Sherpa
"It's hard to turn away from warm and fuzzy pieces when we've fallen in love with them over the past year. However, the good news is we don't have to. Shearling is expanding beyond indoor slippers and into apparel and accessories we can wear outside of the house while socializing, working, and living our lives."
Cutouts
"Skin is in, and it's not going away. This trend was all over the runways for the spring 2022 shows. You can wear cutouts to a special event, whether it's a social gathering or wedding, or for an upcoming vacation as a special piece."
