Susan Feldman is the co-founder of One Kings Lane and In the Groove, a style destination where she shares her age-defying outfits and shopping tips. Feldman is also our resident style expert here at Who What Wear, and she's shared everything from the basics she packs for every trip to the style mistakes she won't repeat. Today, we've tapped her to discuss her fall wardrobe—five items she's adding to zhoosh things up, to be specific.

If you are like me, you have been poring over all the new September issues or diving into all the fall trend reports that are littering the digital magazines. I like to take a moment to survey what's trending so that I have the lay of the land before going on a shopping spree. After all, research is key to any smart purchase. But now that I've taken a look at what's out there, I know I have already found a number of gorgeous fall clothes that I am coveting, and I have been shopping up a storm.

I just can't wait for the weather to change so I can start wearing all those fall things. The big question on my mind as fall approaches is, What are those key pieces that will update my current wardrobe so I look fashionable and on-trend without going out and scooping up a whole new wardrobe? Well, if you're in need of some style guidance, I'm here to help. If you swap in a few things, I know you will feel like you just walked out of a September issue. For me, these five things—clogs, dark denim, knit dresses, utility jackets, and plaid blazers—are doing the trick.

Clogs

I do love my sneakers, and I am not giving them up, but I am going to give them a break and invest in a pair of clogs. They are so fun and chic and can be worn with just about everything. I would suggest also investing in a pair of fun chunky socks to really make a statement.

Dark Denim

I am pretty much obsessed with dark denim for fall. It feels fresh and so versatile. A pair of dark denim jeans will take you anywhere you want to go, from running errands to going out at night. Bonus: They are really flattering. I love them so much I am investing in a pair of straight-leg jeans as well as a bootcut pair.

Knit Dress

This fall, I am swapping out my jumpsuits for a gorgeous sweaterdress. They come in all shapes and sizes, so everyone should be able to find one that suits them. I think sweaterdresses are one of the easiest updates for fall.

Utility Jacket

I think everyone needs a great lightweight jacket that will transition them from summer to fall. I usually would depend on my denim jacket, but this fall, it is all about a great utility jacket. It is perfect for the warmer days of fall and easy to layer over a cashmere sweater for those colder days.

Plaid Blazer

I am going to give my black blazer a rest and step up my game with a great plaid blazer. A plaid blazer goes with everything. Be sure to get it a little oversize to capture that '80s vibe.
