Jacket weather is arguably the best kind of all. It's the time of year when it teeters between warm and crisp, and you start to feel the first cool breeze zip through the hot summer air. Nothing makes me want to toss on a cool jacket more than that feeling when fall is knocking on the door. Maybe it's too early to be discussing jackets, but I just can't help myself. The styles on deck this season are way too good to wait any longer to dish about.

Patience has never been my virtue, so I'm mentally ready to start shopping for the jackets of the season. In the meantime, I've done a ton of trend research and pulled out seven fall jacket trends that will define the season ahead. From the polished bouclé jackets that look like pure luxury to the '80s jackets everyone will skip oversize blazers for, behold the coolest jackets of fall 2023.

'80s Blazers

This fall, blazers are getting the 1980s treatment. We're seeing an uptick in styles that feature design details like strong shoulders, defined waistlines, and baroque gold accents that nod to the era's power-suiting silhouettes. While these blazers were mostly paired with pencil skirts back then, fashion people are wearing them with miniskirts and slouchy jeans for a modern touch.

Leather Moto Jackets

It wouldn't be fall if we weren't talking about leather jackets. This season, oversize motos are continuing to reign, with an emphasis on racing jackets with notched collars and rounded shoulders. During Copenhagen Fashion Week this month, showgoers wore the style en masse, cementing it as a key item for fall '23.

Sweeping Trench Coats

We reach for our classic trench coats at the first signs of fall, and this season will be no different. The staple is taking its position once again as the wardrobe workhorse we know it as. Only this time, there's an emphasis on oversize shapes and floor-sweeping lengths that create one chic blanket over just about any outfit.

Bouclé Jackets

Yep, we're all still in our era of dressing "rich." The piece that's defining the luxurious aesthetic is none other than a bouclé jacket. With its textured fabric and beautiful gold button details, it's near impossible to not look polished in one of these structured styles, whether you wear one with jeans and ballet flats or over a billowy dress.

Utility Bomber Jackets

Bomber jackets are another trend that's sticking around for fall '23. The defining details this season are all about big pockets for a utility feel.

Cropped Suede Jackets

Warm, buttery suede just feels right for fall. In its S/S '23 collection, Ferragamo showed a cropped jacket and matching pencil skirt in the supple fabric, igniting our obsession with it for good.

Denim Truckers

While denim jackets are more of a seasonless staple than anything else, the classic trucker shape is yet again on the menu for fall. Whether you wear one in an all-denim ensemble or elevate it with a sleek maxi skirt, this is your cue to invest in one or pull yours out of your closet.
