I Was Ambivalent About Fall, But These 28 Finds Triggered My Excitement
There's a large corner of the internet devoted to the joys of fall. If you're active on any social media platform, it's hard to miss the countless memes and videos celebrating the arrival of hot drinks, crunchy leaves, and apple-picking. But I for one would rather live in a perpetual summer than experience the impending descent into cold temperatures. Sure, fall has its bright spots—thigh-high boots and apple-cider donuts are glorious— but it still wasn't enough to convert me into one of those fall season enthusiasts.
As usual, clothing is always the best motivator for me to embrace a new season, and in true editor fashion, I've already found the pieces I'm dying to break out ahead of the colder weather. Fall's going to look a bit different for me this year, now that I've moved to the west coast, so I'm looking forward to basking in the mild temps with cool leather pieces and mid-weight layers. I've hoarded these finds in my bookmarks folder for far too long, and I'm eager to share.
From sumptuous knits to eccentric boots, I'm laying out all the pieces that are currently shoving me into the autumnal mood. There are 27 pieces to choose from so guaranteed you'll find something you love here, too. If they've won me over into joining Team Fall, you know they got to be good.
When I was a New Yorker, all I wore were turtlenecks, so I consider myself an expert in this regard. The details aren't super flashy but the beautiful light blue color and slightly sheer material make this one a winner in my book.
It's the year of the vest suit! My coworkers can't stop raving about this one.
The fit on these is just perfect. I can already envision this with a cropped fuzzy sweater.
Every since these floated around in our Slack channel a month ago, I haven't been able to get these out of my mind.
Not a seasonal item per se, but I can't wait to wear this over my collection of sweaters.
I love something with a twist, and this shoulder detail is just it.
A very unconventional pair of boots, but I stan.
I've talked about the artsy print micro trend before, and here's even more evidence it's on the rise. It's on the pricier side, but consider this a piece you'll have forever.
I love a boot that does all the talking, and these scream "fashion person."
As a new Los Angeleno, I may not need a heavy coat like this, but it's better to be overprepared, right?
Welcome the coat of my dreams. I'm sure walking outside in 30-degree weather wouldn't be as bad decked out in this.
As one of the few brands that carry size 11 shoes, Jeffrey Campbell remains a go-to when I'm looking for unique footwear at a decent price point. These take after the popular platform mary jane trend.
This would look so great with leggings and leather over-the-knee boots.
This layered shrug and dress combo instantly called my name after first spotting it on Revolve yesterday. The coolest part? The shrug is also removable.
My leather-pants collection is already pretty full at the moment, but let me just say the contrast stitching justifies buying this pair.
Dark-wash denim is a must around this time of year. What sold me on this pair is the high waist and trending boot-cut silhouette.
I just want to cuddle up in this for eternity.
I have yet to buy this Instagram famous dress, so I figured now would be as good as ever to see what the hype is about.

Indya Brown is a fashion editor, stylist, and writer living in Los Angeles. While going to school at Columbia University in New York City, she got her feet wet in the fashion industry interning at Elle magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and New York magazine's The Cut. After graduating in 2016, she joined The Cut as a fashion assistant, eventually working her way up to fashion editor. There, she worked on a multitude of projects, including styling inbook feature stories for New York magazine's print issue, writing and pitching market stories for The Cut, and serving as fashion lead for The Cut's branded content. While New York has been her home for over 10 years, she moved to Los Angeles in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 for a new chapter. Now she is a fashion market editor for Who What Wear, focusing on emerging designers, rising trends on and off the internet, interior design, and BIPOC creatives and brands. Aside from her duties as a fashion market editor, Brown is also a freelance stylist and writer, working on national print and video commercial campaigns for Sephora, The Independent, and Cadillac. Her bylines also include Harper's Bazaar, Vox, and The New York Times. But once the computer goes down and the emails turn off, she's likely eating her way through Koreatown, hunting down vintage furniture, scoping out new outrageous nail designs to try, or taking a hot cycling class.
