Erica Davies is one of those fashion bloggers you can’t help but warm up to. Whether it’s her honest, witty Instagram captions (which cover everything from body image and parenting to the perfect pair of jeans), her eclectic approach to personal style or her love of the Great British High Street, she has a certainly has the knack for understanding what’s on the minds of her followers (all 111k of them) and the ability to present fashion as a joyful pastime everyone can participate in.
With over 15 years of experience in the fashion industry, her impressive credentials lend an air of authority to her social media posts. Here at Who What Wear UK, we certainly sit up whenever we see that Davies has given something her stamp of approval, whether it’s the latest high-street dress or even a chic interiors piece. We snatched a few minutes with the fashion editor turned blogger to talk about everything from her career beginnings to the autumn/winter 2018 pieces at the top of her wish list. How did your blog first come about?
I had been a fashion editor at national newspapers and magazines but started my blog as a creative outlet just before my second child was born. I didn’t necessarily want to talk about breastfeeding, but I did want somewhere to discuss all the fashion and interiors and stores that interested me and my friends who were also on maternity leave. That was just over six years ago. I started taking my Instagram seriously when I left my position as fashion and beauty director of Look to go freelance.
How has your style changed since you first started out in your career?
I have definitely become much more comfortable with who I am and what I'm trying to do. When I worked in an office, I was very comfortable with my work wardrobe but terrible with casual wear. Now the two have merged, but as I get older, I have a stronger sense of how I want to look and also what suits me.

What key style lessons did you learn from working as a fashion editor for 15 years?
That you will always look better in something if you feel comfortable in it. Also, personal style doesn’t mean slavishly following trends—it’s about having the confidence and the choice to decide how you wish to present yourself. And if you feel great, that’s never wrong!
Do you have any rules when it comes to posting on Instagram?
I post once a day, usually in the evening. But I’m interested in starting conversations or having something to say, so I try to make sure there’s a reason for me posting something.
You’ve addressed the issue of body image in your posts before. What advice would you give to women who are struggling with this?
There’s real power in accepting who you are right now—not the person you’ll be if you put on weight, lose weight, tone up, grow your hair or straighten your teeth. It’s also important to remember that no one’s life is as perfect as their Instagram!

What are your top tips for finding the best pieces on the high street?
Check in often online, refresh the new-in sections regularly, and don’t be afraid to upsize or downsize if necessary.
What three pieces at the top of your wish list for A/W 18?
A pair of ’70s-style tan knee-high boots, a checked tweed coat and a velvet leopard midi skirt!
