This Is the Easiest Way to Try the "Ugly" Shoe Trend

Miuccia Prada has endorsed it. Ashley Olsen has shown her support for it. Gigi Hadid has worn it on numerous occasions. It's official: the "ugly" shoe trend is taking over the industry. But if you're still hesitant to take it out for a spin, perhaps Emma Roberts's perfect styling tip will do the trick.

Stepping out in Los Angeles this week, Roberts found the ideal solution for making the trend easier to wear. She paired Coach's Turnlock Creeper Slides ($345) with Loft's Lacy Flounce Dress ($98) and Garret Leight x Clare V Sable Sunglasses ($340). We love how the addition of her feminine dress and cat-eye sunglasses offset the clunkiness of her cool shoes, making the bold trend a lot more approachable. Plus, her under-$100 dress happens to be the perfect transitional piece for fall—you can easily pair it with tights when colder weather hits.

Associate Director, Fashion News

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
