Trust Me—Buy Any of These 21 Things
As editors of Who What Wear, we like to tell you about the chicest trends around and the kind of pieces that are actually worth investing in. While we’re always writing with you and ourselves in mind (it would be pointless if we chose pieces that we didn’t like, after all), this column is about the items I personally want to buy this month. As a commuter and a mum of a toddler, this means that I need pieces that wash well, don’t crease too much and look smart but also work for the weekend. I’m also super mindful about the environment and want to ensure that anything I buy is a forever purchase as well as something that fits seamlessly into my existing wardrobe.
This month, I'm thinking about party season as well as 2020, and I’ve got a friend’s wedding coming up too. I plan on buying something fancy, but it also has to be a piece I’ll still want to wear after, which is why I’ve included a versatile (but party-ready) blouse from Topshop. As for more staple pieces, as usual I'm on the hunt for great knitwear but also boots that will last the whole winter and well into spring. Essentially, I’m all about the basics this month with a few sparkly bits thrown in for good measure. Keep scrolling for what I'm buying.
I don't own a really great classic coat, so this one has gone straight to the top of my shopping list.
This bag has a longer strap for when you want to wear it across your body, and then it can be tucked in so you can wear it as a clutch for party season. It also holds way more than you'd think (i.e., it fits a phone, keys, money and at least three items of makeup).
I've finally given in and I'm prepared to join the knee-high boot bandwagon with these magnificent ones from Zara.
I plan to wear this blouse to a friend's wedding with some black trousers, a gold necklace and chunky platform sandals.
After being on trend for so many seasons, I think we can now say that shell necklaces are a wardrobe staple.
A classic pair of PJs just in time for Christmas.
A dress that will last you throughout all of winter with flat or heeled boots and will look incredible with sandals once spring and summer roll around.
A new sneaker brand that prides itself on being sustainable thanks to its use of recycled rubber soles and organic cotton.
It's not exactly sandal weather right now, but these Arizona Love shoes just dropped on Matches after being sold out forever.
One of team Who What Wear's favourite dress brands now does coats.
Sustainable brand Ninety Percent does exceptional layering pieces.
I've seen so many people wearing these recently, and now I want a pair too.
Last Month's Picks
Isabel Marant creates a version of this jumper every season, and the reason I love it is because it’s simple. It’s a classic knit, yet the tiny style tweak of slightly exaggerated shoulders gives it a more directional edge.
Wear under everything during the cold autumn days.
I’ve been hunting for a great pair of blue jeans and think I’ve just found them. These also come recommended by so many people I know that I’ve finally decided to make the purchase.
Croc effect makes everything look more expensive. This chic handbag is one I’ve had my eye on for a while.
I can’t tell you how much I love this dress brand. If you hate floral prints, I bet you won’t after looking at the pieces from Bernadette.
Leather shirts are big this season, but Nanunshka only opts for vegan leather, so it’s a great nod to sustainability.
A great smart skirt that will be great for meetings as well as evenings out.
To wear with jeans, skirts, dresses or trousers. Basically everything.
Not the most obvious choice when it comes to Céline bags, but that’s precisely why I love it.
There’s nothing more fabulous than a leopard-print coat, and this one is so affordable. I can’t wait to wear this with the blue jeans above.
Darker floral dresses are big for autumn/winter 2019. This one ticks that box as well as looking vintage too.
This is how I like to invest in a trend that might not be around for more than two seasons: Go for something that hints at it so you can wear it for as long as possible.
New pyjamas in the autumn are exactly what everyone needs as the nights get longer.
The ultimate utilitarian jumpsuit that I can’t stop thinking about.
These are so fabulous and ideal for keeping out the autumn sun. I also love the vintage style of them.
I’ve finally given in and decided I need a gold chain choker in my life.
Such a chic dress.
Cropped cardigans are so flattering when worn with high-waisted trousers.
Next up, the biggest autumn/winter 2019 trends you need to know.
