Elegant Sandals That Will Elevate Every Outfit This Summer
Summer: the season of sandals. We slip into those toe-bearing styles right about when the temperature ekes it’s way up to 60 degrees and don’t look back until there’s practically frost on the ground. As such, we’ve been stocking up over the past few seasons in preparation for our toes’ big debut, buying into all the trends of the moment. The only problem is that most of those looks involve pool slides, casual jellies, and vintage-inspired wrap styles. It seems we’ve neglected the more elegant of the bunch and are remedying the situation, stat.
Because, as it were, an elegant pair of sandals can easily be your wear-with-everything footwear for the entire season, so it’s a nonnegotiable that everyone has at least one go-to pair in rotation, if not more. When it comes to these more tailored essentials, we’re focusing on five very specific styles: classic, understated gladiators; short-strap slides; styles with bows and knots; chunky block-heeled ankle straps; and tried-and-true espadrilles. Read all about why we love them below and shop the trends here.
Classic, understated gladiators
Though gladiators in a word might make you think of more statement-making silhouettes, that’s not all the Grecian- and Roman-inspired footwear brings to the table. This summer, we’re paring down the number of straps, opting for classic black, and wearing these favorites with everything from denim cutoffs to cocktail dresses.
Short-strap sandals
The past few seasons have solidified the slide sandal’s position as an essential, but that doesn’t mean the trend hasn’t taken on a life of its own. While some have gone the way of the more casual rubberized pool slides, the more classic have moved the strap closer to the toe and opted for a thinner leather weave. The result is a slip-on style that reminds us of something Jackie Kennedy might have worn.
Bows and knots
If you’re looking for a truly elegant way to make any of your favorite sandals more elevated, looks for shapes that boast knots or bows. Especially in fabrics like raffia, silk, or even velvet, this silhouette addition will elevate your every look this summer.
Chunky block-heeled ankle straps
For those elegant sandals that are always party-ready, make sure to have a pair of block heels on hand. With a shape that is both comfortable and fashionable, you’ll never tire of this style. We currently love styles with a simple toe and ankle strap to look as classic as possible.
Espadrilles
When you’re in the mood for sandals but you’re not quite sure your toes are ready for their big reveal, go for a pair of espadrilles. This sandal/shoe hybrid reminds us of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and practically transports our style to the stone-built streets of Italy, and we can’t get enough.
Buy one, buy them all: You’ll be all set for summer with these must-have elegant sandals.
