Life as a fashion and shopping editor means fielding many requests for recommendations—especially seasonal advice—from all your friends and family. I am, of course, only happy to oblige. I'll take any chance to wax poetic about my favorite pieces of the moment. In fact, my friend recently asked for help elevating her wardrobe. She is incredibly busy and not an avid shopper, so she requested a guide to get her fall outfits in order. I sent her a breakdown of luxe staples to get her stylishly sorted this season.

With the right pieces, any wardrobe can be brought to a chicer level. With fall in mind, I narrowed down my selection to include a healthy balance of classic options like button-down shirts and straight-leg jeans along with trendier picks like mesh flats and sculptural jewelry.

Keep scrolling to check out 11 luxe fall staples that can easily be mixed and matched to create a seamless rotation of looks to wear for many years to come. I also included outfit ideas for added inspiration.

Chic Outerwear

Chic outerwear options are abundant this season. Whether you're looking for a trendy barn coat, an elevated belted coat, or a classic trench, there's a little something for every personal style. I prefer to stick to basic colors like black, gray, and tan.

Cool Flats

Cool flats continue to be top of mind for fall. They are super versatile and comfy to boot. Try classic ballet flats, a Mary Jane style, or a trendy take with mesh or embellishments.

Timeless Sweaters

When winter rolls around every year, I like to add a timeless sweater or two to my collection. I look for flattering fits in simple stripes and basic colors. This season, I'm very into mock-neck styles and wide sleeves.

Of-the-Moment Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts are having a major moment for fall in a variety of styles. One style that reigns supreme this season is the full skirt, but any minimal skirt will do.

Sculptural Jewelry

A quick glimpse at the runways and the latest street style makes it obvious that sculptural jewelry has taken over. Thankfully, there's a plethora of stunning styles in both silver and yellow gold.

Classic Jeans

No matter the season, classic jeans are always welcome. The main style that has become my go-to is straight-leg denim that hits right at the ankle, as this style is perfect for showing off your favorite shoes.

Sleek Black Boots

Black boots are a must for winter, and I have my sights set on the sleek options this season. I recommend three styles at the moment: a dressier pick with an architectural heel, knee-high or ankle-length moto boots, and a chic pair of riding boots.

Standout Sweaterdresses

Sweaterdresses are perfect for getting ready in a flash without sacrificing style. I recommend opting for styles that have an interesting sleeve shape or a cool texture. Midi and maxi lengths are also a current favorite.

Effortless Blazers

An effortless blazer is an easy way to instantly elevate any look. You can wear the style on its own with jeans for a more fashion-forward vibe or wear it as a chic layer that completes your next ensemble.

Elevated Shirts

I'm loyal to elevated shirts in a variety of colors and patterns. My top picks are button-downs in solid white and blue as well as striped options. These pair well with jeans, skirts, and trousers.

Everyday Trousers

Everyday trousers have been a mainstay for many seasons now, and for good reason—the pants are sleek and add a polished feel to even the most basic of tops.
