Drew Barrymore Doesn't Look 45 Years Old—Here Are 17 Reasons
It's no wonder industry icons like Naomi Watts, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, and so many others become unofficial (but totally official) beauty experts. Groomed, coiffed, lacquered, and primped since a tender young age, they've grown up alongside the best makeup artists, skin experts, and hairstylists in the industry. Thus, they're bound to accrue bountiful beauty knowledge, and many of them have even debuted their own lines, brands, collections, and collaborations, including one of our all-time favorites, Drew Barrymore.
In addition to consistently wowing us on the red carpet since the early '80s, she's also paid it forward by building her very own cruelty-free makeup brand, Flower Beauty, a godsend for those of us who have admired her aesthetic since we were in scrunchies, leggings, and body glitter. (Actually, that pretty much describes our vibe in 2020, too.)
However, Barrymore's penchant for all things beauty doesn't stop there. A self-proclaimed beauty junkie, she's also refreshingly honest and candid about the products she's trying and loving on her Instagram, and her #beautyjunkieweek series has become of one our favorite things to follow in our feed. From showing us the hair treatments that have actually transformed her damaged strands to slathering honey all over her face with pal Cameron Diaz, Barrymore is a font of beauty knowledge, inspiration, and all-around FBI-level product intelligence. So we're celebrating!
Ahead, all the best products, tips, tricks, and rituals we've discovered by way of Barrymore's beauty-centric Instagram feed. Keep scrolling! (And maybe make some room on your bathroom vanity.)
1. She Relies on a Fab Face Scrub to Keep Her Pores in Check
"Obsessed with this brand and they sent me a sample of this scrub when I asked for their insanely effective tea eye cream for dark circles," Barrymore explained in her Instagram caption. "To my surprise, my pores shrank to zip. Zero. Tight. I have slightly noticeable pores around my nose and on my inner cheeks. Gross again! Yay. I’m really hitting it hard this beauty junkie week! But there is a huge debate that once pores open, if they can ever can close again? All I know is I can only shrink mine and it’s not easy! I haven’t seen anything that works this fast and effective. I do this scrub three times a week and I love it. Try it if this is of interest to you. Happy Sunday to all you out there who love a good available solution!"
2. She Prefers Drinking Her Greens (and Florals!) in the A.M.
"Start your Monday or any day off with these two beauty inducing drinkable ways. 8Greens has an amazing way to get your vital veggies in and Sakara Life has the most beautiful balancing rose water that tastes like your drinking flowers. Every time I indulge in these good practices, I know I am doing something good for myself, but I also feel like a pretty responsible grown-up."
3. She's Waged a Full-Fledged War on Dark Circles
"These work! I’ve tried everything and will continue to find the holy grail for dark circles."
4. She's Discovered the Holy-Grail Healing Hair Treatment
"Within 3 weeks Olaplex saves me! 20 minutes on clean wet hair! And so quickly my hair is remarkably and clearly better. It’s curling and actually bouncing and looking like hair rather than coughed up bird feathers."
5. She Loves These French Eye Patches as Much as Beauty Editors Do
"These patches from Talika are everything. They take puffiness away lickety-split! Well, actually, in like 20 to 30 minutes. But they are the most effective ones I have ever used. I use them if I ate too much Salty food the night before a filming day! So enjoy your savory food and throw these on!"
6. She Stays Loyal to the Skincare Brands That Have Really Worked for Her
"I am a long time fan of Obagi. The 3 Clear is a gentle little lightener and number 5 blender can be combined to dilute retinols. The whole line and collection has been around for many, many years, and it is a staple of Dermatologists. I am a long-time fan. They have a ton of products. Maybe seek it out and see if there is anything that is suitable for you. Skin is so important for me and this powerful but attainable line is very effective!"
7. She Swears by High-Quality Leave-Ins for the Ultimate Hair Polish
"I am wacky for this leave-in on my hair. I put some on wet, and my hair dries less frizzy and it’s not weighed down at all."
8. She Knows When to Save and When to Splurge on Skincare
"OK, I’m going to do something I don’t normally do, which is suggest some expensive baller products. Georgia Louise is the British queen of NYC and her knowledge and products are above and beyond. And more than worth the splurge! I always try to stick within a budget. I don’t buy bags and shoes. I drive a mini van. All the companies I run are affordable. But there is one thing I WILL spoil myself with, and that’s for my face. Call me vain. I don’t care. If you use your products wisely they can really go the distance as well. I’m in the beauty game and I need to keep up. In every way. So I am going to put a few things out today that are... well, baller. We will call it #ballerbeautyday just one day of bling and dreams for the skin. Back to budget life tomorrow!"
9. She's as Obsessed With Celeb Facialist Shani Darden as We Are
"West coast facialist and extraordinary beauty maven Shani Darden literally also has the answers. I wanted to share some products from expert women who treat incredible faces and truly live 'skin care' for real. These innovations that they have brought into the world are created from their knowledge and experience! You can’t buy that. Oh, wait you can! This new serum tingles my face and perfects me every night now. I am in love!!!!!!"
10. She Knows Where—and Where Not—to Apply Her Favorite Facial Oils
"#beautyjunkieweek last one and this one is the most expensive. But it’s so amazing! If you use one pump on your face every night, it could be worth it. It will last awhile. And it is like nothing I have tried in a while. I don’t put it on my chin, that’s where I break out. Cheeks and forehead for the most lux oil treatment one could buy. It just sits on the skin like liquid gold, slowly absorbing into the skin. Wow. Last #ballerbeautyday suggestion. Back to steals and deals and everyday normal finds. But it was fun to play."
11. She Found the SPF Formula That Won't Break You Out
"For me, this is my jam. I break out from almost every sunblock. So I’m like, 'Do I want acne or Brown pigmentation?' It’s always been a crappy toss-up. Then I found this. It’s a lightweight sunscreen with a tiny bit of tint and a good number SPF. I have been a long time fan of this line. They have several options, and all are amazing!!!!!"
12. She Really Stans Drugstore Dry Shampoo—and Has It With Her at All Times
"This is me out for an evening. I keep the mini in my bag! I am crazy, crazy for this dry shampoo. I love it for texture, BUT this one actually works like a true do-over for dirty hair. Especially on a blowout. It restores it to pretty and cleans it right up by removing the oil from my scalp and hair. It actually does what it promises to do. It’s better than any I have ever tried and I am a dry shampoo enthusiast. It just does so many things and the travel size is purse-friendly for your day or night!"
13. She Knows the Power of a Top-Notch Salt Scrub
In her IG video review above, she touts this fave pick from Goop as unlike all other scalp scrubs because it actually moisturizes your scalp instead of drying it out.
14. She's Choosy With Her Hairbrushes
Barrymore explains that in order to prevent breakage and damage, you have to brush with TLC in tandem with using high-quality products. These are her two go-tos.
15. She Face-Masks While She Commutes
This facial-inspired mask from Drunk Elephant is a best seller for a reason. It's laced with exfoliating AHAs and BHAs, and it works. Barrymore loves it for how soft and "baby-like" it makes her complexion in as little as 20 minutes during her morning commute. (Since it has a slight tint, you can easily go incognito!)
16. She Knows This Lip Balm From Sisley Paris Is #1
"#beautyjunkie moment before work! Wearing Talika's Eye Patches, a Flower Beauty face mask and Sisley Paris lip balm."
16. She Pairs Face Oils With Vitamin E and Self-Love
"#beautyjunkieweek closes out with Sunday Riley's Juno oil and Now Solutions' Vitamin E which are beautiful oils to truly hydrate your skin! It’s been a great time and all I can say is he good to yourself. Be kind. Be happy. I believe beauty is about to be way we feel. And if we have tools to feel good then that’s how we present ourselves. It’s not about the way it looks, the question is are we happy and confident and ready to laugh and listen! I am so into promoting positive messages in the beauty world! We are who we are and that is unique and beautiful in itself. Now go out there and kill it! And share tips with others along the way!"
17. She Knows the Natural Beautifying Powers of Raw Honey
"Beekeeper's Naturals tastes good too! Great anti-aging, anti-acne, and antioxidants and hydrating. It's what's up!"
(Oh, and you definitely get bonus beauty points if you honey-mask with a friend. But preferably Cameron Diaz.)
