Hair is a very personal thing. It’s a form of self-expression and personal style, and a good hair day can give you a boost when you’re feeling self-conscious. Ever since I was young, I’ve found confidence in my thick, blonde hair, even when I was insecure about my skin. Believe it or not, Dianna Cohen, the founder of clean haircare brand Crown Affair, had this same experience. "I took so much pride in taking care of my hair—it was my armor to my acne,” she recalls. "It was a source of self-assurance and something I’ve cared for daily since I was young.”
Now, Cohen has been working in the beauty and fashion industry for over 10 years, first as an editorial producer at beauty website Into the Gloss. Throughout her career, friends, colleagues, and even strangers have constantly asked her about her haircare routine. (Take one look at her luscious locks and you’ll see why.) And at a time when clean beauty was booming, Cohen noticed there was a major gap in the haircare market. There weren’t any luxurious formulas made with the clean ingredients she needed and the sleek packaging she wanted, so she decided to create them herself. And in 2019, Crown Affair was born, inspiring people around the globe to actually enjoy their haircare routines.
"Our mission is to shift the mindset around how you care for your hair,” Cohen says with a smile. "Wash day isn’t a chore—it’s something you look forward to.” Crown Affair has an array of products to help you achieve any hair goal whether you’re growing your mane long and strong, quenching your bleached locks (ahem, me), taming frizz in a dry climate, or keeping your hair voluminous in a humid environment like Miami, where Cohen lives. What’s her ride-or-die hair product for tropical climates? The Dry Shampoo ($36), which is made with an innovative powder formula. "It smells incredible and leaves my hair silky and refreshed without clogging my hair follicles,” she says. Check out all 20 of her beauty favorites below—they do not disappoint.
Her Coveted Haircare Routine
"This is a layerable, nourishing cream that is refreshing, hydrating, and lets me extend my wash day while keeping my hair healthy, hydrated, and effortless. I don’t think I could go a day without using this product.”
"Combs No. 001 and No. 002 are hand-carved in Switzerland from 100% plant-based cellulose acetate, a renewable and biodegradable material. The wide-tooth comb is designed to gently work through tangles without causing breakage. Both combs are made to last and are environmentally friendly options for maintaining healthy hair.”
"This brush features a combination of nylon and boar bristles. The boar bristles work to distribute natural healthy oils throughout your strands, and the nylon bristles gently stimulate your scalp to increase blood flow.”
"If your hair feels dry after a shower or spending time outdoors, this oil will help nourish your hair and add a layer of fragrance that is not overpowering.”
"We created a mineralized, nutrient-rich dry-shampoo powder to target oils, enrich the scalp, and keep your strands not only refreshed but looking fuller and silkier than ever. It gently absorbs oils and enriches the scalp, leaving your hair voluminous, silky soft, and clean-feeling. It adds beautiful texture and blends seamlessly into the scalp.”
Skincare and Makeup Essentials
"This cleanser gently exfoliates and unclogs pores, helping minimize the appearance of blemishes and refine your skin’s texture.”
"I keep it simple when it comes to my skincare, makeup, and haircare. I look for products that are effective, luxurious, and better for you. Drunk Elephant has created a suite of products that work together in harmony for my skin.”
"Whether you’re dealing with dryness, dullness, or congestion, this mask is the perfect solution for achieving a radiant, glowing complexion.”
"The formula is so nice—it’s really hydrating, absorbs so quickly, and doesn’t leave that layer on your skin that so many oils often do. It smells incredible and is really lightweight. It’s one of the only oils that doesn’t break me out. I use this as a base and a prep for my gua sha.”
"The unique shape of this tool allows you to target specific areas of your face, including the forehead, cheeks, and jawline. With regular use, it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, and leave you with a healthy, glowing complexion. It’s truly a game changer!”
"This tint is lightweight and gives a natural-looking coverage that enhances your skin’s radiance. It also has SPF 35, which is great.”
"This luxurious formula is buildable and gives natural-looking coverage while nourishing and protecting your skin. You can go for a no-makeup look or a more polished finish.”
"If you’re aiming for a subtle daytime glow or a striking evening radiance, this product will help you achieve a natural-looking finish that complements any skin tone.”
"The spoolie on this has soft, densely packed bristles that allow the gel to blend seamlessly with existing hairs to fill in sparse areas. A perfect tool to help you achieve your dream brows!”
"I love this brown pencil. It effortlessly glides onto my eyes, delivering a flawless and defined finish. I use an angled brush to kind of make it hazy to give a lifted-eye effect.”
Self-Care and Wellness Picks
"I’ve been taking Seed since it launched. I accidentally forgot to bring it on vacation a year and a half ago, and I was like, ‘My body is changing.’ I take Lypo-Spheric vitamin C as well.”
"This lymphatic drainage tool is one of my favorite parts of my post-shower evening ritual. Using a paddle is an efficient way to boost blood circulation and the lymph system by draining and moving toxins out of the body. I’ll use jojoba oil and apply gentle pressure working from the legs upward to the heart.”
"The scent transforms your space into a cozy and sophisticated haven of relaxation. The aroma has a blend of Sicilian bergamot, green tea, and cedarwood. I absolutely love bergamot—it’s one of the main notes in Crown Affair’s The Oil and The Signature Scent.”
"These drops are a convenient and effective way to support your well-being. I take a couple full droppers a day. I’m using one to two (maybe one and a half) of these bottles a month. I swear by it. I tell everybody to start taking elderberry syrup.”
