5 Trends Fashion People Are Wearing at Couture Fashion Week in Paris
The street style scene is where early adopters test out upcoming trends as well as the ones that will have the most impact in defining fashion in the year ahead. At the spring 2024 Couture Fashion Week in Paris, we got a glimpse at what is resonating most with the best-dressed people in fashion and where style is headed. There, fashion insiders were already spotted wearing some of the major trends expected to dominate in 2024.
While there are plenty of noteworthy looks, I'm especially interested in what will define outfits in the coming months. Ahead, I'm highlighting five major trends I spotted on the streets of Paris, from directional silhouettes to fresh accessories to the latest must-own jacket shape. Keep reading to see how the style set is wearing 2024 trends ahead of the pack, and shop my edit of pieces to add to your closet.
A-Line Silhouettes
Over the last year, we've been charting a palpable shift in clothing shapes and proportions. One of the most dominant? The reemergence of A-line silhouettes. With a nipped-in waist and flared skirt shape, the pieces also point to the return of elegant, refined fashion looks.
Fitted Jackets
Another major shift we're seeing in clothing proportions is fitted jackets—a stark contrast to the oversize blazers that defined fashion just a few years ago. Dior's iconic bar jacket finished with fitted shoulders and an hourglass waist immediately comes to mind as a prime example of the trend, as do straighter, '90s-inspired styles from brands such as Loulou Studio.
Acetate Aviator Glasses
Acetate aviators are the glasses shape I can't stop talking about and I spotted them everywhere on the street style scene at Couture Fashion Week in Paris. The shape is taking off both in the realms of optical eyeglasses and sunglasses and the silhouette feels like a fresh alternative to more shrunken styles that have been popular recently.
Elevated Staples
There were plenty of street style outfits straight from the couture runways, but some looks that stood out most were the ones built around elevated staples. The casual looks incorporated pieces like double-breasted trench coats, sweaters tied as scarves over the shoulders, and dark wash jeans that communicated a sense of easy, everyday uniform dressing.
Slouchy Denim
I spend a lot of time studying denim and wasn't completely convinced that slouchy jean silhouettes would be sticking around. If the street style looks at Paris Couture Fashion Week are any indication, though, the denim style is thriving.
