4 Scandi Trends That Will Look Just as Good in 2021 as They Do Now
Copenhagen might technically fall outside of the traditional fashion month schedule, but the designs coming out of this Danish city have a huge impact on how women dress throughout the world. Thanks to brands like Ganni and Cecilie Bahnsen, Copenhagen Fashion Week has become an important fashion event that is known for its playful, experimental view—the styling is always unexpected and innovative. It is also a city making strides with sustainability. This year it announced that by 2023, all designers will have to comply with a new list of guidelines and standards regarding textiles and waste.
Danish design across fashion, interiors and architecture as a whole shows that you can lead on the sustainability front without sacrificing on style and aesthetics. I visited Copenhagen Fashion Week and certainly left with lots of inspiration for styling ideas while learning about new technologies and fabrications that minimise waste. Slow fashion is also a popular concept in Denmark, with an emphasis on investing in pieces you'll wear year after year. I certainly got this sense watching the upcoming winter collections. The items that clearly defined the Copenhagen winter look for 2021 were similar to those I saw Danish women wearing around me already. Almost every collection I saw included a knitted vest top, a pair of chunky boots and something quilted.
Hero items from the collections include Ganni's exaggerated collars, Holzweiler's long stomping boots and the knitted vests worn over princess dresses at Cecilie Bahnsen. Keep scrolling to see—and shop—the four items that were all over Copenhagen Fashion Week and will define the Danish winter look (this year and next).
