Calling It: This One Jacket Trend is About to Be Everywhere This Fall

As reported in our fall 2022 shopping guide, there is one outerwear trend that will dominate for the upcoming season: Bomber jackets. While the revival of the jacket can be traced back to spring 2022 when celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Rihanna endorsed the pieces on the street style scene after a yearslong hiatus, the jacket will be even bigger for fall.

What is noteworthy about bomber jackets this season is how designers are reimagining the classic piece. Typical designs has been reinterpreted with pieces embellished with feathers and floral appliqué at Prada, racing inspiration at Christian Dior, dramatic puffed-up silhouettes at Loewe, and dynamic prints at Etro. With all of the updated interpretations on the classic bomber jacket emerging for fall, it means that no matter what your take on personal style is, there is a take that will fit seamlessly into your wardrobe. Read on for the coolest bomber jackets of the season.

One of the most wearable versions? Leather. The sleek update to a bomber jacket is the cool update to a bomber jacket that feels primed to take over this fall.

Oversize Bomber Jackets

Designers are constantly in proportion play and the oversize bomber jackets that are everywhere on the market are proof that upsized proportions aren't going anywhere soon.

Racing Bomber Jackets

We can thank fashion's fascination with Formula 1 for the racing-inspired jackets that were everywhere on the F/W 22 runways. Already a favorite piece amongst the coolest style insiders, this is something I'm planning on ordering right away.

Voluminous Bomber Jackets

Leave it to Loewe to design one of the most memorable bomber jackets of the F/W 22 collections. The puffy jacket is just one example of the cool padded jackets that are starting to pop up everywhere.

Colorful Bomber Jackets

We're staring to see more examples of bold color on the runways, so it comes as no surprise that bomber jackets are popping up in statement-making shades. Go for anything from rich jewel tones to the season-defining pastels.

Embellished Bomber Jackets

Prada always manages to predict some of the key trends of the season, including this season's bomber jacket trend. Prada's specific take included versions embellished with everything from feather to sequins—the most directional take on the trend for fall 2022.

Cropped Bomber Jackets

Yet another example of proportion play? The cropped bomber jackets spotted on the Miu Miu runway. While oversize jackets will be huge this fall, there is equal evidence that shrunken styles will be popular.

Printed Bomber Jackets

Statement-making prints were everywhere on the F/W 22 runways, so it comes as no surprise that printed bomber jackets are yet another micro-trend within the outerwear category.
