My 6-Piece Summer Capsule Wardrobe Is Absolutely Foolproof
Believe it or not, I actually look forward to spring-cleaning season. I've already taken stock of my apartment and decided on which home trends I'm phasing out and what I'm replacing them with. Now, I'm ready to do the same with my closet—a Herculean task, to be sure. I've set aside a modest clothing budget for spring and summer, and I'm specifically looking to invest in quality, versatile pieces that I can wear with a variety of outfits.
To that end, I've come up with six staples that form my dream capsule wardrobe this season. They include pieces for both going out and staying in, so there's something to suit everyone. Plus, I'm finally returning to the office after two long years, so my list also includes work-appropriate outfits. Scroll down to shop my favorite six-piece capsule wardrobe for spring and summer 2022.
My 6-Piece Capsule Wardrobe List
1. A Modern Going-Out Top
Gone are the days when a "going-out top" meant strictly something glittery. Now, I'm very into tops with interesting necklines like this one.
2. A Super-Comfy Matching Set
Yes, I'd sleep in this cute matching set and run errands wearing it.
An extraordinarily comfy sweater is never a bad investment.
3. A Relaxed Pantsuit
This layered blazer is an instant outfit-maker with zero effort on your part.
Wide-leg pants are absolutely everywhere right now.
I'm simply obsessed with this beautiful olive color.
I'd wear these trousers with a simple white tee in lieu of boring jeans.
4. A Fun Cardigan
5. An Everday Jumpsuit
6. An Updated Midi Skirt
This faux leather is buttery soft—you have to feel it to believe it.
Pencil skirts may evoke images of corporate America, but a faux-leather version is a major fashion upgrade.
Next, this under-$60 Parisian lingerie brand was a French-girl secret—until now.
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
