I Just Tried the Concealer That Supermodels Swear By—Here's What I Thought
Back when I was a beauty-obsessed teen, it was common for new makeup launches and cult products to be basically impossible to get a hold of in the UK. Thankfully, times have changed and beauty obsessives no longer need to cross the pond to stock up on the best in beauty at Sephora with places like Cult Beauty, Space NK and even Boots now offering all the best beauty brands here on British soil.
There was one product, however, that up until recently had proved almost impossible to get your hands on in the UK, and it has a cult status like no other. Found in the backstage kits of any makeup artist worth their salt as well as being a staple in the beauty bags of celebrities and supermodels, I'd been dying to try this concealer for years—and now, since its UK launch a few months ago, it’s become a staple in my beauty arsenal.
The product in question? Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer (£54), which since October has been exclusively stocked at Harrods in the UK. Founded in 1982, Clé de Peau Beauté is a Japanese beauty brand with seriously luxurious formulas. Disclaimer: Its products are far from affordable, but the brand's dedication to cutting-edge scientific formulations and beautiful textures mean they're worth the investment.
In fact, it's the top beauty brand in Japan, which is pretty impressive. But when its products launched stateside in the late '90s, the brand soon reached cult status in the West.
Pati Dubroff, a celebrity makeup artist for the likes of Margot Robbie and Priyanka Chopra, was one of the first industry experts to sing Clé de Peau concealer's praises. "I was hooked from first use," she told Town & Country.
I was so excited to finally get my hands on this iconic stick concealer and put it to the test. I'll admit that I was sceptical of the portable stick format, as I tend to opt for liquid concealers that are more blendable and creamy, but this one has a gloriously rich texture. In fact, it glides onto your skin thanks to antioxidant-rich chestnut rosa fruit extract. In terms of finish, the Clé de Peau concealer manages to deliver on both coverage and luminosity—a mean feat indeed. I tend to use a light-reflective option for the under-eyes and a more heavy-duty concealer, but this performed well on both counts.
Coming in at £54, the Clé de Peau concealer might not be the most affordable concealer on the market, but I'm seriously impressed with it. Turns out Rosie HW was totally right to swear by it for all these years…
"One of my favourite concealers is Clé de Peau concealer," Huntington-Whiteley told W when asked what she never leaves the house without. "I'll go in and get in any of those areas where there's blemishes or impurities or under the eye."
And Rosie isn't the only supermodel to swear by this cult concealer. Lucia Pieroni, Clé de Peau's makeup creative director, told Town & Country that she has handed out countless concealers to clients including Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet and Kate Moss. "It's not too dry; it's not too greasy. It's light, but it really covers," she explained. "I'm putting it in my bag for Kate Moss tomorrow."
