Ciara knows how to make a grand entrance. When she arrived at New York Fashion Week, every head turned. The showstopping outfit was comprised of only two items: oversize black sunglasses and a shiny leather trench. LITA by Ciara received a room of its own at Revolve's NYFW gallery. She walked around in awe, touching the clothes she designed, interacting with the models, and telling her children and friends about the details of her design process. Later, she told me, "It's surreal to be kicking off fashion week with my own brand. That's a 'pinch myself' moment."

Her namesake brand was designed with the intention of empowering women. She told me, "LITA stands for 'love is the answer.' We say that women have a beautiful gift and the power to love and lead with love. That's an important part of the designs and the materials." When you walk around the room and take a closer look at each of the pieces, you can tell the quality is a priority.

When I think of Ciara's style, my mind immediately goes to her many head-turning and glamorous outfits. From turning a football jersey into a sequined ball gown for the Met Gala to sporting low-rise on the red carpet during the entirety of the 2000s, she's known for making statements. However, if you pay closer attention to her day-to-day style, wardrobe staples truly compromise the majority of her outfits.

So during our quick chat about the fabulous fall collection she designed for LITA and the best musicians to listen to these days, I had to ask Ciara which wardrobe staples she's currently living for. I'm on my way to buy all five that she highlighted.

1. Leather Trench Coat

All you need is a good trench coat for fall, and Ciara proved that to be correct when she attended New York Fashion Week wearing nothing but one. When I asked her what staples she'll be wearing into fall, she immediately said, "I'm definitely bringing this trench coat."

5. White Sneakers

Ciara is a self-proclaimed tomboy, and she told me that this character trait "really inspired [her] interest in fashion." Her love for sneakers aligns well with this note, as she told me it's a transitional item.

Sierra Mayhew was always destined to work in fashion, but she didn't know it at first. Growing up with no choice but to wear a rotation of school uniforms and activewear, her love for fashion really blossomed when she moved away for college and was able to finally define her very own personal style. Shortly thereafter, she interned at Elle magazine and instantly knew that editorial was for her. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, she worked for ShopBazaar, contributing regularly to Bazaar.com, and finally made her way to Who What Wear, where she is an associate editor. When she’s not working, you can catch her always trying to catch a flight, trying the latest fitness craze in New York City, or exploring luxury vintage boutiques.
