Making regrettable purchases can be a part of life. We've all done it at one point or another. Luckily, we can all deal with the hassle of having to return something, donate it, or suck it up and wear it even if it's not entirely right for us. The real question is, do we want to? My answer, starting in 2025, is absolutely not.

So how does one break the regrettable-purchase cycle? One of my main 2025 shopping goals is to make intentional purchases. Most of my favorite looks can be broken down into wardrobe staples, proving that basics are the best investment pieces. After all, most aspirational wardrobes are built on chic staple pieces that act as the backbone of every good outfit.

Below, shop the nine perfect basics guaranteed to elevate and ground your wardrobe.

White T-Shirt

A quality white T-shirt is always worth the investment. Finding your go-to white tee is something you will never regret.

Classic Denim

A good pair of blue jeans can rarely be disputed. Every fashion person knows polished pieces can always be grounded with the perfect pair of jeans.

Oversize Blazer

Exaggerated silhouettes are synonymous with chicness in the industry these days. An oversize blazer always fits the bill, whether you're wearing one with jeans, a slip dress, or trousers. The styling possibilities are endless.

Tank Top

I will continue my preaching about a high-quality tank top. The base of so many sensible outfits is a solid tank. The below are the best of the best.

Wide-Leg Trousers

The ultimate way to elevate an outfit is a tailored trouser. This is one of the pieces that will exceed your expectations in terms of outfit versatility.

Black Dress

There is so much to be said about the validity of buying a good black dress. There are enough options and occasions for a black dress that it almost seems silly to validate, but the classics will never fail.

Longline Trench Coat

When looking for a trench coat, obviously channel the '90s minimalist vibe—think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. This is a piece that's guaranteed to never go out of style.

Slip Dress

A slip dress is one of the most versatile staples in the fashion book. Pair it under a blazer, beneath a sweater, over a turtleneck, with strappy heels, or with heeled boots. Dare I go on?

White Button-Down Shirt

A white button-down shirt doesn't even need a campaign, but if you're not yet sold, I'm here to say that you will have no regrets about investing in one of these. The perfect white button-down is an item that will serve you for as long as you wish.
