Charlotte Tilbury’s Eye-Enhancing Collection Is Here, and We're Obsessed

Sadly, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to makeup. A foundation that makes one person look radiant and glowing could totally wash out another, while a blue-toned red lipstick that gives you the whitest smile going could do absolutely nothing for the next person. Over the years, this is a concept that the beauty industry has very much got to grips with: Foundation shades are now divided into skin undertones (with 40+ shades), a lipstick line could boast 30+ shades and you can get your hands on a full spectrum of bronzer shades, from cool to warm.

One product that has fallen behind in the easy-to-shop race, however, is eye shadow. Just like every other item of makeup, the shade of eye shadow that you settle on has the power to make or break your look. Not only does it have to complement your skin tone, but it also turns out that it should also work in collaboration with your eye colour too. Celebrity makeup artist (and niece of Charlotte Tilbury herself), Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury explains, "Eyes are rarely just one colour. Select colours that enhance the hues you want to amplify. A great way to get to know colour is to work with a colour wheel. It’s a secret tool all makeup artists are taught to use.”

So what exactly does this mean? Well, it turns out that when you wear a shadow colour that is opposite to your eye colour, the contrast works to intensify your natural eye colour. "Blue eyes work best with warm champagne tones, green eyes look great with pinks and purples, hazel eyes pop against rich greens and brown eyes work with almost every colour, but blue makes an amazing contrast,” says Sofia. Green Eyes

"While I love a winged liner look, coloured eye shadow is something I very rarely experiment with myself, usually leaving complicated makeup application to the experts (or my former-makeup artist sister). Hazel Eyes

When I first saw the khaki green shades in the palette, I was worried. I am by no means a whizz when it comes to eye shadow and I felt like trying to find a way to make green work was going to be tricky, to say the least. However, the simple four-step guide on the back of the palette made it all super easy and, actually, I was quite impressed with the results. I was reluctant to go in with the liner, but in the end, I'm so glad that I did because it added a smoke to the look that I think it really needed. As an added bonus, my normally muddy-looking eyes look way more vibrant (if I do say so myself).

Blue Eyes

"So this really works. My eyes don’t normally look as blue as they do in this picture, and as soon as I put the coppery shadow onto my lids my eyes instantly seemed to change colour. I don’t wear much makeup day to day and so am normally scared of anything too trend-led, but these shades feel subtle enough for me to wear them every day. Brown Eyes

"I'm usually an eye makeup avoider (a few lashings of mascara and I'm set) but, hey, I was up for the challenge this time as I love a bit of Charlotte Tilbury. The blue palette gave more of a grey smoky-eye effect, which would be great for an evening out, but it was adding the eyeliner that really made the colour pop.
