9 Elevated Autumn Trends That the A-list Are Already Wearing
Celebrities, they're just like us. Well, as far as it's nearly autumn for them too. But as it's part of their jobs to look good at all times, there's an added pressure to get their seasonal wardrobes right. Whilst I'm tempted to spend autumn wrapped up in cosy knits and comfortable shoes, the A-list have to work that little bit harder to make cold-weather clothing look chic. Thankfully for you, whatever they choose to step out in over the next few months, Who What Wear UK is on hand to chart the very best autumn outfits worth copying.
Lately, we've seen our favourite famous dressers in some of autumn's biggest trends a little early. After such a short and disappointing summer, the stars are already reverting to cosy coats, easy denim, and of course, plenty of sleek accessories—all of which have inspired our new-season purchases.
So, should you be wondering what to wear this autumn, it's what the stars are wearing off the red carpet that's really grabbing our attention. In the mix you'll find Sophia Richie's favourite jeans, Victoria Beckham's classic coat, and the jacket trend that Katie Holmes splurged on (but that you can find on the high street).
Keep scrolling to see the nine best celebrity autumn trends well worth investing in now, and where you can shop the key pieces needed to replicate that A-list look.
1. BOUCLÉ JACKETS
Style Notes: Katie Holmes's Chanel look is a reminder of just how chic tweed and bouclé jackets can be. Not only are they the perfect layer for transitional weather, but they manage to make even a white tee and jeans look dressy.
SHOP BOUCLÉ JACKETS:
You'll be thankful for this once the temperatures drop.
2. SAGE GREEN
Style Notes: There are a few colours that always manage to look expensive no matter what they're paired with, and sage green is the latest addition to that list. This soft and sophisticated shade is the palette cleanser we've been waiting for after Barbie pink, and it's about to start a movement all of its own—just ask Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
SHOP SAGE GREEN:
Wear with jeans, skirts, tailored trousers, over dresses and under jackets.
This bag comes in just about every colour, but the green is iconic.
3. HERRINGBONE COATS
Style Notes: If we can rely on Victoria Beckham for anything, it's tips on how to style skyscraper heels, flared trousers or a good coat, and this look is a case in point. A classic wool coat is a wardrobe staple, and even if you don't plan on wearing yours with a pair of lycra sock boots, it will go with everything in your wardrobe, guaranteed.
SHOP HERRINGBONE COATS:
It's official: & Other Stories makes some of my favourite coats on the high street.
4. RELAXED-FIT JEANS
Style Notes: Autumn and winter are all about comfort, so in the interest of keeping spray-on skinnies at bay for as long as possible, we're sticking to slouchy boyfriend, balloon and wide-leg styles, just like Sophia Richie Grainge. There's something effortlessly elegant about a piece that you can throw on in five minutes teamed with sophisticated separates.
SHOP RELAXED-FIT JEANS:
The perfect high-waisted, loose-legged fit for those who don't want "baggy" jeans.
If there's a better pair of jeans to pair with ankle boots, I'm yet to see it.
5. KNEE-HIGH BOOTS
Style Notes: You might be expecting to see ankle boots on this list, but this autumn we're following Emily Ratajkowski's lead and pairing mini hemlines with tall boots. Knee-high boots tend to come back around each year for good reason, and this year we don't plan on waiting until winter to make the most of this chic boot style.
SHOP KNEE-HIGH BOOTS:
6. BALLET FLATS
Style Notes: Not a fan of heels? No sweat, Gigi Hadid just showed us a new way to style the year's biggest shoe trend thus far—the ballet flat. Whilst we wore them with romantic dresses and skirts through the summer, now is the time to play with typically "masculine" references and try pairing the dainty shoe style with tailored trousers, blazers and oversized shirts.
SHOP BALLET FLATS:
7. BOLD REDS
Style Notes: It's quite possible that Hailey Bieber set the internet on fire when she stepped out in a series of bright red looks to promote her latest Rhode launch, but it reaffirmed what we knew all along—hot red is the one to watch. It might not be a trend fit for wallflowers, but it's well worth the minimum effort for maximum payoff.
SHOP BOLD RED:
Straight from the runway and onto NET-A-PORTER.
8. BOXY BLAZERS
Style Notes: If you aren't already following Rochelle Humes, consider this your sign to hit that button. She effortlessly mixes high street and designer pieces (and is responsible for a few instant sell-outs), but if there's one style from her extensive wardrobe we'd like to borrow, it's her blazer collection. We've been obsessed with oversized tailoring since The Frankie Shop first dropped the Gelso jacket, and this season designers turned up the volume even further. Just check out Saint Laurent's A/W 23 show for the biggest blazers we've ever laid eyes on.
SHOP BLAZERS:
Whenever I'm looking for premium tailoring, I head to Me + Em for the perfect fit.
9. SUPERSIZED TOTES
Style Notes: We've been tracking Jennifer Lawrence's outfits for a while now, and her reliable tote is in the background of all of her transitional outfits. Finally, a trend that is as practical and it is cool, and if it gets the celebrity stamp of approval, we're hanging up our mini bags until next spring.
