We're Calling It—This Chic Brand Is Going to Be as Big as Totême in 2023

By Malene Birger isn’t a new brand. In fact, the Swedish label was founded in 2003 and was one of the original Scandi brands that opened fashion’s eyes to the joys of sophisticated minimalism (ahead of the "old Celine” Phoebe Philo era). Being an editor over the past decade, then, has meant having the brand on my radar to some extent. However, over the last few months, we Who What Wear editors have spotted By Malene Birger’s polished pieces popping up more than usual on some of the best-dressed women we know.

Twenty twenty-two may have been all about Totême, with every influencer, editor and fashion person after a piece of the brand’s simple yet elevated designs. But if By Malene Birger’s new collection is anything to go by, this alternative Scandi brand is about to follow suit and hit major cult status in 2023. With a creamy palette of neutrals across a selection of soft coats, beautiful knits and textural dresses (all at a rather reasonable, mid-range price point), it’s really no wonder the fashion crowd have added the brand to their most-wanted list.

The hero piece of the moment appears to be the cream bouclé jumper-and-skirt co-ord—no surprises there—which is selling out fast. But we’ve also spotted numerous influencers in the dresses and perfect blazers. As your regular download on what’s hot in the industry right now, we thought it was about time we rounded up By Malene Birger’s best pieces for you to shop (before they become even harder to get hold of in the New Year). So keep scrolling, and you’ll find our edit from the new collection.
