This Uncomplicated Summer Outfit Only Requires Two Pieces, and I'm Obsessed
When it comes to dressing for the warm weather, I like to keep things simple. I'm talking about zero thinking required and minimal layering involved. Summer is a tricky season where there is so much to do, but it's also tough to dress for the heat, so I'm taking note of all the easy outfit ideas I can. When I looked to my saved folder on Instagram to see the outfits that have been inspiring me as of late, I realized that a majority of them involve two main basics. A button-down shirt and relaxed trousers are all I need to stay comfortable and look put-together this summer.
As I'm preparing for the season ahead, I've added quite a few of those items to my wardrobe, so it didn't take much time for me to pair them up and head out the door. Also, just because the outfit is simple doesn't mean it has to be boring. Experimenting with pops of color and texture can easily make the summer basic feel fresh and new. And of course, you'll be keeping cool in the swelteringly hot season. Keep scrolling to see how the fashion set is wearing this easy outfit idea and how to shop the ensemble so you can participate.
The best way to stay cool in the heat? Opt for oversize silhouettes in lightweight materials like linen. It looks effortless and stylish all at once.
A classic print like stripes will go with anything and will always look polished.
Wear a tank or tube top underneath the button-down to add some dimension to your outfit. The extra layer and edgy accessories take the look from a beachside 'fit to a street style one.
Neutrals never looked better. If you want to add a personal touch, opt for a statement accessory that'll pop against your crisp button-down.
Even if you're not someone who wears color often, a bright button-down is an easy way to incorporate a fun pop into your wardrobe. All you need is a pair of neutral coordinating trousers, and you're good to go.
When I'm looking for "back to the office" inspiration, I'm most interested in menswear-inspired outfits, which usually involve a button-down tucked into trousers—finished off with a classic belt.
Worried about what to pack for vacation? This outfit formula has you covered for that too. Just add easy sandals and a woven tote.
If you're not on board with the baggy-trouser trend, a pair of slim-fit pants will look just as good with a button-down.
