I Live in Black Jumpers—Here Are 5 Chic Outfits That Keep the Interest Alive
This winter, we're going back through the archive, reintroducing our favourite timeless items that have kept us company through seasons past. Rather than rushing to the checkout to snatch up the latest trend-led pieces all the time, we're often found shopping our own wardrobes and restyling those key pieces that have never let us down. Of the lot, one of my personal heroes for winter has to be a simple chunky, black knit. With styling potential to see you through the chillest months every year, there's no other item more worth investing in for a cold British winter (well, maybe apart from a coat). Plus, you can even bank this staple for the transitional months too, it's that versatile.
Though I've been coming back to this item for longer than I can remember, I always like to shake up my styling patterns to give my black jumpers a fresh feel each time. To help revitalise your own trusty black knits, see below for my edit of new ways to style the key piece this season. And don't forget your de-bobbler!
5 Chic Black Jumper Outfits to Copy This Winter:
1. WITH WHITE TROUSERS AND MARY JANES
Style Notes: Contrary to popular belief, you absolutely can wear white trousers in winter. Opt for a heavier fabric than summer's favourite linen, such as denim or wool, and finish your look with mary janes for an easy and elegant ensemble.
Shop the Outfit:
A tailored trouser is perfect for all occasions, from the office to formal dinner parties.
Pointed-toe shoes have been everywhere, but square-toe shoes have made a comeback.
2. WITH A LEATHER SKIRT AND KITTEN HEELS
Style Notes: An easy trick to elevate a black knit is to style it up with contrasting fabrics. A structured leather skirt dresses up any slouchy knit for an effortless look that's dripping in style, plus it's a thicker fabric to withstand the elements.
Shop the Outfit:
This also comes in bright red, which is an easy way to inject colour into your closet.
The ideal leather skirt for your winter wardrobe.
3. WITH BARREL JEANS
Style Notes: Barrel jeans are taking off as the anti-skinny-jeans trend to shop this winter, and a welcome alternative to mom, or wide leg jeans that drape on the floor. Wear a pair in a dark denim, or washed black hue, with a complementary bag and comfy trainers, even sleek loafers for a stylish look that's both comfortable, casual, and bang on trend.
Shop the Outfit:
This season, silver shoes work for both party and every day, even when it comes to your trainer collection.
4. WITH A COSY LEATHER JACKET
Style Notes: I'm already cosying up in my leather aviator jacket (yet again). A favourite of the street style set, the leather aviator has rocketed in popularity in recent months. Warm up your look by shopping yours in a shade of brown.
Shop the Outfit:
This lightweight knit is perfect for layering all year long.
The cosy fleece lining will keep you warm all season.
Every wardrobe needs a great pair of reliable jeans, and Agolde always delivers.
5. WITH A LACE SKIRT
Style Notes: Yes, black jumpers are practical for evening wear too. Pair with the hugely popular lace skirt, and a masculine blazer, and a pair of kitten heels. Alternatively swap your heels for biker boots, and an A-line maxi skirt for a textured outfit perfect for the daytime.
