Sorry, Sandals—Celebrities and Fashion Experts Are Already Wearing Autumn's Major Shoe Trend
We might be in the middle of summer, but judging by the current outfits of fashion people in the UK, you wouldn't have guessed it. Whilst dresses and skirts have of course been cropping up throughout the season, the shoe pairings haven't been quite what we were expecting so far. Shunning sandals for fear of being drenched by the unrelenting storm clouds that just won't quit, the style set is reaching for biker boots as their unexpected shoe of choice this summer.
I'm not the only one to notice an uptick in the trend this season: Fashion technology company and premium shopping app Lyst has reported that searches for biker boots are up by 54% year-on-year this July. Of course, the weather will likely have something to do with this, but there's a greater influence at play. Defying summer's expectations, the trend has become a mainstay in celebrity wardrobes too.
Styled by Lila Moss across her weekend at Glastonbury, I've also spotted the trend gracing a few red carpets this summer, worn with a black halterneck dress by actor Emma Corrin at a promo event for their latest film project, Deadpool & Wolverine.
The style, which originated as the footwear of choice for motorcyclists, is known for its worn, vintage look and utilitarian embellishments. After making a short-lived appearance in the 2010s, the resurgence of the trend started with Miu Miu’s A/W 22 runway collection, as the brand debuted its now-iconic Sienna biker boot. Available in an array of leather finishes and with various studs, buckles and harness straps; the fashion house’s design oozes character and charm, so it’s no surprise that the style set went wild for them. Beyond its initial runway success a few years ago, the trend was spotted again on the A/W 24 runways at shows including Alexander McQueen, Coach, Miu Miu and Burberry.

If you’re anything like me, you've had your eye on some biker boots for a while to toughen up your favourite cotton and slip dresses. From Miu Miu’s iconic style to Arket’s widely loved pair, keep scrolling to see the best biker boot options on the market right now.
How Fashion People Are Styling Biker Boots in 2024
Style Notes: Adapting to summer's unfortunate lack of sun, Maya de Graeve styles her biker boots with a few light layers and a pair of jorts.
Style Notes: Wear under baggy jeans for a relaxed look you'll come back to throughout the year.
Style Notes: Showcasing the boots in all their glory, Kay Ashanti styles hers perfectly for autumn with a checked blazer and miniskirt co-ord. Take on chillier weather by popping on a chunky roll-neck knit and a pair of sheer tights underneath.
Style Notes: Ruby Lyn also opts for a blazer and biker-boot combo with a matching pleated midi skirt—another good option for the colder months.
