Take Note—This is the Chic Trouser Style I Can't Go Without In Winter
Like the perfect wool jumper, wool trousers for the winter season are simply non-negotiable for me. For their brilliant silhouette, which also masterfully balances a slight slouch, a pair of tailored wool trousers is, in my opinion, the perfect winter pant. So far this season I've styled my pairs with thick jumpers and smart blazers, but am also inspired by ballet flats and wool trouser pairings. With colder weather finally set, you can only make it so far in your favourite pair of jeans before the need for something thicker sets in. Rather than layering on itchy thermals, wool trousers, with their natural insulating abilities, will get you through the season looking sleek and put-together, rather than bulky and uncomfortably bundled.
Although wool is a premium fabric, that's not to say that you have to spend a fortune on a great pair of wool trousers. High-street retailers such as Marks & Spencer and H&M have been hard at work constructing their perfect pairs in shades of deep black, grey melange and perfect navy, whilst The Row and Toteme's sleek iterations are perfect for a cool, wearable silhouette that will style effortlessly with the rest of your winter capsule wardrobe.
Whilst wool trousers don't have to break the bank, they’re often not as cheap as their cotton or synthetic counterparts (depending on the brand). For their softness, quality, construction and insulation, a pair of wool trousers will likely set you back around £100 as a starting point. In terms of cut, whilst I adore a slightly slouchy silhouette, cigarette cuts and ultra-wide leg styles exist in abundance from both our high-street heroes and designer favourites.
