I Tried Summer's Hottest Lipstick Trends—Here Are My 7 Favorites
Welcome to "I Tried It" Week. From our editor in chief purging over 19 shoes from her closet to our assistant editor dressing exclusively in vintage, follow along this week as the Who What Wear editors take on personal wardrobe challenges and document the process along the way.
Hi, my name is Judith Jones, and I love lipsticks. A quick peek inside my vanity and you’ll understand my true passion for a great pout. What can I say? There’s something about a little lippy that can totally change your mood, elevate your outfit, and make you feel polished and put-together with one simple swipe. I agree wholeheartedly with Nicki Minaj when she said, "If there was no more pink lipstick in the world, I’d be useless.”
Now that summer is in full swing, today I want to share some of the biggest lipstick trends we’ll be seeing here, there, and everywhere this warm-weather season. These are the hues that ruled on the runways and that you’re likely to see on an Insta feed near you. From pretty petal pinks to unexpected rich berry tones and 50 shades of nude (seen on practically every S/S 19 runway), there’s a little something to suit every beauty maven’s taste for the sunny season ahead. Scroll below as I share seven of my favorite lipstick trends to wear right now.
Petal Pink
This demure shade of pink is one of the most practical and easiest hues to wear this season. It's low-maintenance, and the pretty color will go with almost every outfit you own.
Shop:
Earthy Brown
From earthy shades of clay to deep-cocoa hues and chestnut nudes, rich browns are omnipresent this season.
Shop:
Peach
Perfect for the summer months, peachy coral tints add a sweet pop of color to your everyday outfits.
Shop:
Nude
Every shade of nude ruled on the runways, from Fendi to Max Mara. I like dabbing a little of my luminous foundation on my lips before swiping a soft nude, tawny hue on top.
Shop:
Glossy
If you want to add a little oomph to your nude lips, then a dewy look is the answer. The '90s trend we all wore growing up is having a major comeback, and we recommend reinstating it in your beauty bag ASAP.
Shop:
Powerful Red
Red will never go out of style. No matter the season, rouge will brighten your face and make you look polished in an instant. It's perfect for taking you from day to night with ease.
Berry
While you might think rich berry is reserved for fall, think again. Variations of berry shades—from wine to blueberry—were seen on a multitude of runways and are surprisingly flattering on every skin tone. For an evening look, add a glossy finish.
