5 Easy-to-Wear Suits We Really Need for Spring
Sponsor Content Created With Banana Republic
Suits? For the office? Sure, if you say so—but this season’s tailored fixation has zero to do with work attire. These suiting separates don’t care if they ever see the inside of an office building, and they’re partying with all our other favorite spring trends to make modern, elevated-casual dressing a total breeze.
Behold the runway-approved suiting trends we can’t get enough of, and not just because Banana Republic finally answered our prayers and made suiting you can legit just throw in the washing machine. Prepare for a fresh perspective on totally wearable suiting, endless outfit possibilities, and way less time spent running to pick up your dry-cleaning.
LOAD UP ON LILAC
The S/S 18 shows were awash with purple hues, from the softest lavenders to ultraviolet, and we’re simply not ones to argue with Pantone’s 2018 color of the year. Get your favorite logo or plain linen tee involved; then order yourself some avocado toast because you’re 100% ready for brunch. But wait, I hear you cry, I’m still ultra-jazzed on all those must-have red pieces last season! Great news: Teaming lilac with a pop of tomato red is the runway-approved move that gives this shade a little more edge.
MIX UP THOSE PRINTS
Speaking of trends that still have legs, don’t spend a second worrying that 2017 was the year of overinvesting in plaid. Emails with the subject line “I FINALLY FOUND THE PERFECT CHECKERED BLAZER!!!!!” still circulate our office with regularity, and the runways breathed new life into the heritage print by clashing it with layers of this season’s major florals. Don’t be scared—this feels like a lot at first glance, but the right plaid will act like a super-confident neutral. PS, didn’t get the tortoiseshell-effect footwear memo yet? Get on it.
PLAY UP THE PASTELS
We have ice cream outfits on the brain. The S/S 18 runways were like one big bag of candy hearts, with pastel tones worn from head to toe. Option one: Make like a strawberry milkshake, starting with these bubblegum suiting separates, finishing off the look with pieces in complementary shades of hot (or barely) pink. Or add an under-layer of sherbet and cool-girl slides in periwinkle, and try telling us you’re not having a great day.
AMP UP THE RETRO VIBE
We are rolling so deep in the retro-infused suiting game: Give us double-breasted blazers and ruffle bibs any day of the week. If fashion week street style galleries have taught us just one thing this past year, it’s that tailoring is possibly at its very best when coupled with a hint of the ’70s and a touch of athleisure. And look, should you choose to also don a pair of gold aviator frames and maybe a faux-snake mini bag, well, tag us in your pics because that sounds awesome.
SHORTEN UP YOUR SEPARATES
Summer’s coming, we promise, and the second it arrives, we’re signed up to wear tailored shorts and matching blazers like nobody’s business. The vintage-inspired texture of this suiting feels ultra-luxe, and nobody’s ever mad at a full-navy look. Perhaps most importantly, this has us feeling quite ready to convincingly play croquet and drink mint juleps should the opportunity arise.
