The Best Places to Shop in Paris, According to Parisian It Girls
Who knows where to shop in Paris better than the fashion girls who frequent the city’s hottest haunts on the regular? Exactly. Which is why, when we decided to explore the best off-the-beaten-track shops and hidden gem districts in the city of haute couture, we turned straight to the girls in the know.
Cue a guide to bagging the best vintage pieces, chic everyday staples and even one-off home décor pieces, from Paris-based fashion blogger Anne-Laure Mais, aka Adenorah, and Parisian jewellery designer Adeline Rapon.
Keep scrolling for the Parisian guide to the best places to shop in Paris.
The Frankie Shop
The Frankie Shop Paris (there’s one in New York too) on Rue Saint Claude is a minimalist’s haven. “It has a very good selection of new designers,” notes Anne-Laure, while prices vary from the wallet-friendly to the splash-out worthy.
Tim Bargeot
If offbeat is your vibe, head to Tim Bargeot, a stylish retro fashion boutique on Rue de Turbigo. Tip from Adeline: “I love going to Tim Bargeot. It’s an amazing place for ’60s- and ’70s-inspired pieces and well-fitting clothes.”
Episode
If you love a good vintage rummage, Episode, a favourite of Anne-Laure, is for you. The Paris branch of this small Dutch company sits on Rue Tiquetonne, and from the outside, it’s the kind of hidden gem you’d miss unless you were looking for it. Which, of course, now you will be. If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves, there are prizes to be found.
Nathalie Dumeix
A must-visit when in Paris and firmly among Anne-Laure’s top spots, for the uninitiated, designer Nathalie Dumeix is the French-girl go-to for chic silhouettes. Jeanne Damas is a huge fan too, while Anne-Laure notes the trousers and jumpsuit selection is not to be missed. You’ll find the boutique on Rue Théophile Roussel—don’t delay, as every piece is limited edition.
Kiliwatch
Another vintage haunt loved by Anne-Laure, you’ll find Kiliwatch on Rue Tiquetonne. An über-cool hot spot for fashion insiders, the concept store houses vintage pieces by runway heavyweights alongside cool streetwear from emerging designers.
Le BHV Marais
This is everything you’d hope a department store in Paris to be—housed in a huge historic building facing Notre Dame and filled with everything you could imagine. “You can genuinely find anything here from perfume to pencils and bedsheets,” says Adeline. Nestled at the heart of the historic Marais district, you’ll find Le BHV Marais on rue de Rivoli opposite the Hotel de Ville.
Marché aux puces de Saint-Ouen
With its main arm running along the rue des Rosiers, Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen is one of the biggest flea markets in Europe, sprawling over seven hectares with some 3000 traders. But of course, while there are plenty of knockoffs to be had if you’re so inclined, it’s also a hotbed for antiques, vintage finds and one-off home pieces. Top tip from Anne-Laure: “Sellers here are really nice and open to negotiation, which is rare in Paris.”
Hippy Market le Marais
For a touch of Paris’ la vie bohème, Adeline’s top recommendation is the Hippy Market on Rue du Temple. “I shop for vintage pieces here, and it’s a very cool selection—you’re always sure to leave with something.”
