The big Nordstrom summer sale is officially in full swing, and it's live through September 12. We already showcased a smattering of standout buys here, but we thought we'd highlight even more pieces. Specifically, we wanted to get thoughts from a certified Nordstrom expert. That's right. Savannah Pilorge, the styling program manager at the Nordstrom in Bellevue, WA, offered up her expert insight into what's worth buying from the current sale.

As someone that works on the ground floor at Nordstrom and spends her days styling and working with the Nordy offering, she certainly knows her stuff. "I always think a sale is a great time to stock up for the change in seasons and on those pieces/brands you know and love, but it's also a great opportunity to branch out and try a new trend with less investment," she told us. With that in mind, keep scrolling to check out the categories Pilorge thinks you should consider right now from the Nordstrom sale.

Statement Outerwear

"Outerwear is always a conversation heading into fall/winter, but with the rise of the maximalism trend, we know outerwear will be an even bigger category this year. If you want to invest in a wardrobe piece, look for a classic, tailored, wool trench in black or tan. If you want to use this as an opportunity to play with trends, look for oversize puffer coats, exaggerated lines, and shoulder pads. Use your outerwear as a way to play with silhouettes, and give us all the drama for fall." — Pilorge

Sneakers With Character

"As we head into fall, I'm looking at snagging deals on sneakers with character. We always love a classic white sneaker, but I'm specifically looking for pieces with interesting fabrications and texture choices. Tweed, plaid, and anything metallic is a great way to elevate a basic sneaker and keep it relevant for the upcoming cold-weather seasons." — Pilorge

Blazers

"Celebrating the return to work, I am looking at blazers with details like strong lapels, satin, and oversize silhouettes in black, rich navy, winter white, and pops of color. We have seen a shift back to a wider pant in recent years, which again gives us the opportunity to play with silhouettes. With this being said, yes, you can still wear your skinny pant! Keep it relevant with an unexpected blazer—playing with texture, shape, or color—and a fun shoe." — Pilorge

Bold Accessories

"We saw metallics, rich chocolate browns, rich navy, and pops of color (try red, pink, and orange!) all over the runway for fall/winter. Mix these trends with your classic wardrobe by looking for accessories (scarves, jewelry, handbags, etc.) in these hot hues. If you have plans to be a wedding guest in the next six months, try to find a metallic evening clutch to be ahead of the trend. Keep an eye out for an oversize tote bag, as this shape is also making an appearance everywhere." — Pilorge

Moto Jackets

"In my opinion, a wardrobe is never complete without an iconic leather jacket. If I need a boost of confidence, I always reach for my black, (p)leather, perfectly cropped, structured leather jacket, which I originally bought on sale about five years ago!" — Pilorge
