5 Fashion Editors on the Accessories Keeping Them Up at Night
Sponsor Content Created With Fendi
You may have noticed that everyone is very (very) into Fendi right now. The glorious renaissance of Karl Lagerfeld’s FF logo print is warming the nostalgic little hearts of cool kids everywhere—to the point that, like leopard print, the infinite logo design is now basically considered a goes-with-anything neutral.
While we haven’t shaved those Fendi Fs into our heads just yet (for those of you who don’t recall the fashion highlights of 2006, that’s a Kanye reference, and yes, I encourage googling it), a quick look around the Who What Wear office will tell you we’re all very much picking up what Fendi’s putting down.
I took a quick survey of the team to see what everyone’s winter style vibe is right this second and which Fendi accessories they’re currently coveting. (I included mine, too, because I heard the holidays are coming up?! Mum, Jake, are you reading this?)
KAT COLLINGS, EDITOR IN CHIEF
How you think/secretly hope people describe your style behind your back: Hopefully as completely my own. I’m always looking to up my individuality with vintage and special pieces.
TV or movie character serving as your current style inspo: Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. All tonal looks, all the time.
Accessories are a serious business because: As a celebrity stylist said to me in an interview recently, accessories can “polish or demolish your outfit.”
The accessories currently keeping you up at night:
My favorite cozy style trick of all time includes a button-down shirt and a neck scarf tucked in to the collar. The look can run a tad uptown, so the bold logo print on this scarf will give the outfit a bit more edge.
I have asymmetrical ear piercings, so I’m all about a layering different statement earrings like this logo hoop. Extra points if you put the larger earring in the back, as it’s a bit more unexpected.
NICOLE AKHTARZAD, MARKET EDITOR
How you think/secretly hope people describe your style behind your back: Cool without trying too hard.
TV or movie character serving as your current style inspo: I just saw Crazy Rich Asians, and Astrid is my new life goal. Before her, definitely Carmela Soprano.
Accessories are a serious business because: They’re the make-or-break of my everyday jeans-and-tee combo. Without accessories, my style would be unbelievably boring.
The accessories currently keeping you up at night:
As my husband has said (many times), I have an unusually large collection of tiny bags… I just love them! Up until seeing this, however, I’ve always opted for black ones because they’re the most versatile. I love how this little white bucket style is simple and easy to wear like a black purse while also making a statement.
I’m a big sneaker girl; I like to be comfortable. The trick, though, is that if you wear really cool sneakers, people might just think it’s a fashion choice (rather than being driven by your secret laziness).
LAUREN EGGERTSEN, FASHION EDITOR
How you think/secretly hope people describe your style behind your back: I think people probably say I have rather bold style. I love buying into trends, but I always try to mix them with the more timeless pieces in my wardrobe.
TV or movie character serving as your current style inspo: Not to be cliche, but Carrie Bradshaw 100%.
Accessories are a serious business because: They add that touch of personality your look might otherwise lack.
The accessories currently keeping you up at night:
I’m a sucker for statement socks, and these are hitting the nail right on the head. I plan on wearing these with everything from black ankle boots to low-top sneakers. In my opinion, a little Fendi will make any outfit 10 times better.
This mini bag is perfect for casual daytime outings and is polished enough to be worn to a more formal event as well. Come 2019, we’re going to be seeing a lot more the brown-and-beige color family, meaning this investment piece will definitely be worth it.
KRISTEN NICHOLS, ASSOCIATE EDITOR
How you think/secretly hope people describe your style behind your back: Classic but modern—with a touch of glamour.
TV or movie character serving as your current style inspo: Gwyneth Paltrow in The Talented Mr. Ripley. I can’t stop thinking about her trench coat look.
Accessories are a serious business because: Mimi Cuttrell—the mastermind behind Bella Hadid’s outfits—told me she believes accessories can transform a simple look, and I couldn’t agree with her more.
The accessories currently keeping you up at night:
Did you say hands-free? Did you also say logo bag? What more is there to think about?
I’ve never met a hoop earring I didn’t love, but this logo version takes them to the next level.
NATALIE CANTELL, FASHION DIRECTOR
How you think/secretly hope people describe your style behind your back: Like I love fashion but also have other things going on.
TV or movie character serving as your current style inspo: Steve McQueen in Bullitt. Very strong turtleneck-and-blazer game.
Accessories are a serious business because: They’re the secret sauce; they breathe new life into my “uniform.” You find the denim styles and so on that you know really work for you; then accessories let you reinvent your wardrobe staples season after season.
The accessories currently keeping you up at night:
I have a weird hang-up about coming across as overdressed (or, as we put it in high school, like I’m “trying too hard”), so 99% of the time I’ll change fancier footwear to white sneakers at the last second before leaving the house. I remain convinced that this makes even my most high-maintenance outfits appear nonchalant… LMK if this is coming across.
A little trifold wallet is basically a microcosm for the KonMari method: no needless clutter, no dozens of coffee cards, no accumulating receipts instead of doing my expenses right away. It’s proof you need nothing in New York except your credit card, MetroCard, and a little bit of cash.
