I'm Doing a Closet Clean-Out for Fall—5 Items I'm Ditching and 5 I'm Keeping
If there is one piece of advice I would give someone who wants to elevate their wardrobe, it would be this: purge. Go through your closet and start getting rid of things. That sweater you bought two years ago and still haven't worn but is still hanging in your closet? Sell it. Those jeans that you wore all throughout college that still fit but are kind of dated? They’ve got to go. See, the key to dressing smart is to not be so overwhelmed with options in your wardrobe and to have a few go-to outfits/pieces you can rely on to get dressed quickly but still look stylish and chic. Now that fall is around the corner, it’s time for me to do my seasonal closet clean-out, and this time, I’m taking no prisoners. I’m determined to have the chicest fall I’ve ever had, and that means cracking down on what I’m letting into my closet and what I'm ditching.
There are five fall items that reign supreme, and I will be keeping, shopping, and adding more of these. On the other hand, there are five items that I’m kicking to the curb to make room for the items I really need.
Keep scrolling to see which items made the keep list and which I'm ditching.
Keeping: Knee-High Boots
Ditching: Platform Ankle Boots
If there is one item I’m most excited about wearing this fall, it’s knee-high boots. They are the perfect combination of sexy and stylish and oftentimes can make or break a fall outfit. If you invest in anything special this season, I would highly recommend a great pair of knee-high boots. The Reformation pair below has a special place in my heart. I need to get my hands on them.

Keeping: Trench Coats
Ditching: Cropped Moto Jackets
When it comes to trench coats, a lot of us associate them with springtime. However, I’m loving the idea of a trench coat styled for fall, especially when we’re transitioning into the new season and it’s not quite chilly enough for a heavier jacket. It’s the perfect stylish, lightweight layer to throw over a knit and denim.

Keeping: Classic Black Knits
Ditching: Statement Cardigans
In New York City, having a collection of chic black knits is a must. This fall, I’m stocking up on cozy but chic-looking sweaters and knits to wear all season long. There is something so polished and cool about a good black sweater, and you don’t have to do too much when styling them. Just add your favorite skirt, jeans, or trousers and you’re good to go.

Keeping: Classic Gold Jewelry
Ditching: Colorful/Silver Jewelry
If you ask anyone who knows me, you’ll find that I usually wear lots of gold jewelry pieces. I’ve just always been a jewelry person. It totally completes the look and ties everything together in a perfect bow. With the revival of fashion’s obsession with ’80s-inspired jewelry and sculptural earrings, the time to start collecting great jewelry pieces is now. Adding a cuff, hoop, or statement earring can take an otherwise basic outfit to the next level. A little touch of gold here and there can really make a difference—trust me.

Keeping: Oversize Leather Jackets
Ditching: Fitted Blazers
An oversize leather jacket is the signature cool-girl jacket of fall. Hailey Bieber and It girls alike all have one of these in their closets, and you’ll be seeing them everywhere during the colder months. There is just a relaxed biker-chick aura that these jackets have that I just love. I’ll be ordering mine ASAP.
