Trust Me—Every Beauty Editor I Know Counts on This One Brand for Glowing Skin
When it comes to the best skincare brands, there are only a handful that I can rely on to keep my complexion looking as clear as possible. As someone with sensitive, dry, oily and blemish-prone skin, I tend to reach for those crowd-pleasing brands that everyone knows and loves. From La Roche-Posay to CeraVe, my skincare routine is full of gentle products that I know won't disrupt the status quo.
That being said, every now and again my skin needs something a little more powerful to get the job done. When this is the case, there's only one brand I reach for. Yep, I'm talking about Medik8.
I'm a big fan of Medik8 products.
Founded in 2008 by UK scientist Elliot Isaacs, this brand has quickly become a beauty-editor favourite. At first, Medik8 was only available at professional medical spas and clinics, but the efficacious formulas were in high demand, so the brand soon made them available to consumers too.
I've been using Medik8 products for almost a year now, and I am always so impressed by just how well they work. This winter, my complexion has been incredibly dull and congested, so I've been reaching for the brand's popular vitamin C and retinal to help rejuvenate my skin and get that much-needed glow back. I've been loving the results, so I thought that it was only right that I rounded up the best Medik8 products for you to shop. If you're keen to give the brand a go, then keep on scrolling...
The Best Medik8 Products to Shop Now
- Best Medik8 vitamin C: Medik8 C-Tetra®
- Best Medik8 retinal: Medik8 Crystal Retinal
- Best Medik8 cleanser: Medik8 Lipid-Balance Cleansing Oil™
- Best Medik8 moisturiser: Medik8 Daily Radiance Vitamin C™
- Best Medik8 serum: Medik8 Hydr8 B5™
1. Medik8 C-Tetra®
Best for: Dull skin
How to use: Massage in four drops after your morning cleanse
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Gentle on sensitive skin
Vitamin C serums are great for adding a healthy-looking glow to the skin. That being said, some vitamin C serums can be quite irritating. However, Medik8 has worked hard to produce an effective formula that still manages to remain gentle on sensitive skin types, which is why this product is a staple in my collection.
This serum is formulated with a stabilised form of vitamin C and helps to brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. It also contains vitamin E to help protect the skin from environmental aggressors. Overall, it's a really great product to add to your morning skincare routine.
For
- Adds a glow to the skin
- Contains a stabilised form of vitamin C
- Gentle on sensitive skin types
Against
- Vitamin C can irritate some skin types, so introduce this gradually into your routine
2. Medik8 Crystal Retinal®
Best for: Dull skin and uneven skin textures
How to use: Apply two pumps after your evening cleanse (use twice a week for the first two weeks, then build up gradually)
Why it's Who What Wear approved: It comes in varying different strengths to suit beginners and seasoned retinal users
"I've long used the Medik8 Crystal Retinal, and just about every skin expert I know recommends it," says Who What Wear UK beauty editor, Eleanor Vousden. "I have sensitive skin and its one of the only retinoid products I trust. What makes it so great is that whether you're a seasoned retinal user or a retinal pro, or are just starting out using the ingredient for the first time, there are varying strengths to suit your skin. As your skin acclimatises to the dose, you can go up in the next strength to build upon the benefits which compound over time.
"I began on strength one and am now on strength six, and I've seen my rough skin texture become more buttery and my fine lines are softening. It's one of the few retinoid products I've never experienced irritation with, which is a huge plus."
For
- Comes in a range of different strengths
- Evens out skin texture and softens fine lines
Against
- If you're new to retinal this could be quite irritating, so introduce gradually to your routine
3. Medik8 Press & Glow®
Best for: Congested skin
How to use: After your morning or evening cleanse, swipe the product over the complexion using a cotton or facial pad
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Gentle enough to use twice a day
This clever product works to remove dead skin cells on the surface of your skin for a smoother, glowing complexion. These types of products can sometimes be a little drying on the skin, but Medik8's formula is gentle enough to be used twice a day (although I would recommend building usage up gradually).
"I made the switch to Press & Glow and I'm in awe," says beauty expert Giselle La Pompe-Moore. "I'm pretty sure the entire texture and tone of my skin has changed. It's juicier, more balanced and just so damn radiant. So much so, that my mum and best friend noticed and wanted the secret. I might be a beauty expert but there's probably only about five products that have made it into my hall of fame that I will actually repeatedly buy, and this one has made the cut."
For
- Adds a radiant glow
- Removes dead skin cells
- Easy to use
- Gentle on the skin
Against
- A little more expensive than other options on the market
4. Medik8 Press & Clear™
Best for: Blemish-prone skin
How to use: After your morning or evening cleanse, swipe the product over the complexion using a cotton or facial pad
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Helps minimise blemishes while keeping pores clear
If you have blemish-prone skin, then let me introduce you to Medik8's Press & Clear. This 2% BHA toner contains salicylic and tranexamic acid to decongest the skin and minimise the appearance of post-blemish marks.
"I've recently rediscovered the power of a great toner, and this one from Medik8 has genuinely helped get my acne in check," says Who What Wear UK beauty director, Shannon Lawlor. "With a gentle-release salicylic acid, it helps to keep my pores clear and also calms active spots while they're rearing their ugly heads. I'm never without a bottle."
For
- Helps keep breakouts in check
- Also helps to minimise post-blemish marks
Against
- May want to introduce gradually into your routine to see how your skin reacts
5. Medik8 Lipid-Balance Cleansing Oil™
Best for: Dry skin
How to use: Massage into dry skin and add warm water before rinsing
Why it's Who What Wear approved: The oil-to-milk formula cleanses skin without leaving it feeling stripped of moisture
I'm a big fan of cleansing oils, so I was delighted to get my hands on Medik8's popular Lipid-Balance Cleansing Oil. The formula is an oil-to-milk cleanser that removes any traces of makeup without leaving your skin feeling dry or stripped. I always follow this with a water-based cleanser to get the best results, but it's an essential first step in my evening skincare routine. If your skin is feeling dry this winter, I highly recommend giving this a go.
For
- Removes stubborn makeup
- Leaves skin feeling silky soft
Against
- I would recommend using a water-based cleanser after to properly clean the skin
6. Medik8 Bakuchiol Peptides™
Best for: Uneven skin texture
How to use: Massage six drops into the face and neck after your morning or evening cleanse
Why it's Who What Wear approved: A great alternative to retinol
The ingredient on everyone's lips, bakuchiol is right at home in this peptide serum. The brightening, smoothing and collagen-stimulating serum is a great alternative for retinol. Bakuchiol is plant-based and you can use it both day and night, a must for those who don't vibe well with retinol. This particular product is super lightweight on the skin and contains one of the brand's innovative stability systems to make sure that the formula remains potent till the very end.
For
- A great alternative to retinol
- Lightweight formula
Against
- Expensive
7. Medik8 Advanced Day Total Protect™
Best for: Most skin types
How to use: Apply five pumps as the last step in your morning routine (can reapply throughout the day)
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Protects from blue light and pollution
Wearing SPF is so important, and this moisturiser from Medik8 combines SPF 30 with blue light and pollution protection to act as a shield for your skin. Of course, I always recommend applying a separate SPF on top of your moisturiser, but this is a great product to add to your skincare routine for both the summer and winter months.
The cream itself is super lightweight and I love wearing it under makeup. It creates a really smooth base and helps everything glide on a lot easier.
For
- Lightweight cream
- Sits well under makeup
- Contains SPF
Against
- Would advise wearing a separate SPF for full protection
8. Medik8 Hydr8 B5™
Best for: Dry skin
How to use: Apply six drops after your morning or evening cleanse
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Contains multi-weight hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid devotee? Well, it's time your go-to ingredient got a promotion for all of its hard work. This serum will do just that thanks to the inclusion of panthenol to keep water firmly locked into your skin. The serum won't just stick to the surface of your skin like some of the others out there, but will get into the deeper layers for ultimate hydration.
For
- Super hydrating
- Gets into deeper layers of the skin
Against
- A bit more expensive than other options on the market
9. Medik8 Daily Radiance Vitamin C™
Best for: Dull skin
How to use: Apply a liberal amount after your morning cleanse
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Adds serious glow to the skin
If you prefer your vitamin C in moisturiser form then look no further. This bestselling day cream is popular for good reason. It contains vitamin C, broad spectrum SPF 30, hyaluronic acid and all the vitamins your skin needs for protection, hydration and of course, the all-important glow.
When I'm not using my vitamin C serum I love using this to keep my skin looking as radiant as possible. Similar to other day creams from the brand, it's nice and lightweight on the skin and creates a smooth base for makeup.
For
- Contains lots of key ingredients for a glowing complexion
Against
- Vitamin C can irritate some skin types
10. Medik8 Ultimate Recovery™
Best for: Really dry skin
How to use: Apply a small amount to dry areas after your morning or evening cleanse
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Acts like a blanket of moisture for your skin
When your skin just isn't acting right, consider this your superhero product. This richer than rich cream is a treat for dry, damaged and overwhelmed skin. Skin that's seen and done too much and needs a weighted blanket and hot water bottle. It aids in recovery if you've had any treatments or just overdone it on the acids.
I always find that I reach for this during those winter months when the cold weather and central heating is playing havoc with my complexion. My piece of advice? Apply after your evening cleanse as this can be a little heavy under makeup in the morning.
For
- Super hydrating
- Great for using after a facial treatment
Against
- May be a bit too rich for oily skin types
11. Medik8 Retinol 3TR™
Best for: Dull skin
How to use: Apply four drops after your evening cleanse (use twice a week for the first two weeks, then build up gradually)
Why it's Who What Wear approved: Works while you sleep to deliver lots of skincare benefits
If you're looking for an effective retinol serum, this Medik8 option won't disappoint. Designed to be applied at night, it will slowly release all of its skin-tone balancing and texture-smoothing benefits while you sleep.
It is formulated with 0.3% retinol, and although this might not sound like a lot, this ingredient is powerful, so I always recommend gradually introducing it to your skincare routine.
For
- Softens fine lines
- Smooths skin texture
Against
- Could irritate the skin if not used in the correct way
